So, stupidity struck again and lets just say I will use way more caution when using a nylon piston stop, because it led to messed up rings and hopefully a manageable fix.

Just curious about how to install the rings. I ordered oem stihl spec ones and understand the technique of putting on the ring, but should I oil them up in order to make sure there is no friction when I go to put it all back together? Ripping one apart proved to be much more than I bargained for and now its just a mess of parts all around. The handle assembly will definitely be the most challenging it seems but I have the parts diagram and schematic for it.

Shown is the picture of the piston, just want to make sure that when I install I make sure to put each end of the rings under the little nub on the actual piston. Any input and correct terminology is appreciated.

very light coat of Vaseline or 2 stroke oil will lube the cyl walls enough. 2stroke if you plan on getting it together and running it fairly soon. some of my projects get sidetracked so I Vaseline them... A-D-D ...sucks.

you can see the lube dripping off the piston in Steve's pic ^...its 2 stroke oil...

I haven't been too deep into a 200T other than replacing the handle and some chain brake work, but I can whip through a 192T in no time and find them very easy to work on. Is the 200T a similar thing once you figure it out?

Hello--My first post----Had to register for this topic.
I have worked on MANY Stihl 200t. As a matter of fact, that is basically all I repair and sell now.
I get a lot of 200 from dealers and before teardown, I clean as well as I can.
For the actual question, I install piston rings by holding the open ends stick in line with the piston pin and then push the ring over the piston crown with both thumbs.
When ready to install, I used a few drops of 2 stroke oil on the internal bearings and coat the cylinder walls.
With the piston, I apply several drops of oil to the rings and rotate them to evenly distribute the oil. Then coat the outer diameter of the piston.
I use a home made ring compressor but have built many two strokes by just carefully compressing with fingers.
One trick you can use to make sure you haven't broken a ring, is to carefully press on the face of piston ring through the exhaust port. It will go in slightly and then return if good. If it is broke this will not happen.

The reason the 200 is my main saw is that I can sell them quick. I have sold about 25 saws over the last two years and I now have two running saws and three that are waiting for parts.
The 200T will usually sell in a couple of weeks, and I have had some buyers travel a good distance to buy.
Very few are sold local.
Lowest price I have gotten was $350 and the most was $575. The $575 saw would have sold on eBay for 7 or $800.
I no longer sell on eBay because of all the changed BS rules and non paying bidders.
I don't buy or sell junk.

Totally get you there. eBay is great to buy from, sucks to sell on... It's good to have you with us.

Usually they work for me. But sometimes I don't get them, and then a few days later I get a bunch from days prior...
I use Tapatalk though on my phone.
On the web browser you should see a watched thread link that should take you to them.
I hope that helps...
if not maybe jon1212 can help???
