I had a 429 sitting in the garage but when the old 360 gave up We put a 351 Windsor in that truck instead of the 429. It was a battle every step of the way. Should have just bolted in the 429. I’m not a mechanic and certainly not a fabricator.

429 is alotta engine but it seemed to fit into that truck with almost no modification.

429 in place of an FE engine would have presented challenges also. They are not direct swaps.

Truck needed a bunch of steering and suspension repairs a while back so I had them put Thuren soft ride springs and shocks in the front so that it would ride as good as @dall ’s Chevy car. I was hoping it would just level it out but it ended up Cali lifted with the front higher, and I can’t get a full view out the rear view mirror now, so I gotta lift the back too. Unfortunately, good rear leaf springs are not as inexpensive as front coils.

New tires too. I get them from discount tire and they prorate the mileage warranty. 50k tires only went 30k, took a good bit off the cost of the new ones.

It already has small factory blocks and traction hop off road. Good deaver springs with more arch will correct that. I don’t understand why the manufacturers don’t build their suspension properly to begin with. Taller blocks will make it worse unless I add traction bars…and get the geometry right so they don’t bind. Upside is they will help protect $$$ exhaust emissions stuff and driveline.

A buddy has some nitrogen charged rock crawler shocks laying around I might try for a little boost if they fit. They are basically coilovers without the coils, nitro to hold the load but not stiff or rigid like air shocks or bags.

I'm not so sure more spring arch will help with hop.
I've experienced it on every truck I've had, especially plowing snow.
The only way to keep that leaf pack from doing a "wave" when the tires start slipping bad is to have a rigid fixed point, as in traction bars.

Because of all the people that buy trucks and use them like a car, wanted them to ride like a car. On an average, trucks used to be cheaper than cars, because they were used for work. Once trucks became the rage with concrete cowboys, the prices went up along with the popularity.

Whatcha running for a steering box? If I remember correctly the easiest power steering swap for these was the 78-79 4x4 box? But it doesn’t look like you went that way.
I'm running a 1978 Bronco box, it's been a bit of a learning curve but if I'd had all the parts on hand I coulda had the whole p/s and p/b swap done in 5 days. Once I'm done I'll do a full-on build thread detailing the swap on Fordification. I recall seeing the burgundy truck years ago, my brother almost bought it. I might've even seen the yellow one too. That 70 is pretty damn cool, I'd like mine to be ~2" higher but I'm really liking the looks of it.

Yessir it was on Craigslist for while. That yellow one was stock it was just tall cause of the big tires. I imagine you’ve got your setup already worked out but I’ve got the power steering components from a 78 f-250 4x4 sitting in the back of a storage container.

I thought about the F250 swap, but I really disliked the thought of pulling the motor and chopping out a huge chunk of my crossmember. Oh yeah, I picked this up for $500 tonight. 69 Triumph T100R, a fender and paperwork should be acquired next week.

There's a great acquisition right there. I hope you get that thing on the road by next spring.

Got to get a little maiden drive in the yard, no brakes yet, had to be a little carefull
A friend of mine had a 66 Chevy pickup he restored to the point of pinstriping on the frame rails. It was all done except the interior. He took it for a beer run....sitting on a bucket. He goosed it a little, turned over the bucket, pulled the steering wheel off of the quick attach that wasn't latched....

He started over a couple of years later....

Arch fights wrap…jeeps are spring under so they don’t wrap. Anti wrap bars have to be added when going spring over for lift/flex.

Flat springs with blocks are the worst. The taller the block, the more leverage the axle has on the spring.

Desert race trucks have lots of thin leaves, lots of arch, sometimes converted to spring under.
