My current Echo and Dolmar fleet is pretty odor free, not sure why. Could be that synthetic 2 stroke oil just doesn't have much of a smell when burned. When I was a kid, everybody mixed their 2 stroke fuel super rich regardless of what the manufacturer said. No measuring going on, if the bottle looks big enough just dump it all in. Of course, alot of machines still called for 16:1 or even 12:1 so it was probably better that way.
