Hey Everyone-

Just a quick post as I feel like I've been out of touch with OPE for way too long!
Hope everyone is well and enjoys the Thanksgiving holiday coming up this week.

Been really busy with the day job, kids stuff, and weekend warrior tree work. At least I've been running saws, getting exercise, and putting dollars aside for projects that way.

I nearly cried when Kevin dropped the 346 I rebuilt when she got pinched chunking down a maple yesterday -- a good 25-30' drop. Top cover damaged and the stop switch doesn't work. I'll take her home next week and fix anything broken -- that saw was dialed in nice -- OE 346 w/ NE OEM piston/cylinder and genuine Zama C3-EL-18B carb running strong... New project will be to make sure she's OK.

Mason @huskyboy the echo CS355T top handle has been fantastic. Thanks for the recommendation.

Other than that been simply running stuff and moving a lot of wood.

Looking forward to a break once we are buried in snow. At that point will try and get some winter projects together.

Cheers.

Good to hear from you Eric, I’m sure you’ll get that 346 in fighting condition again! I have to get to my 7910 project, but priorities have gotten in the way as usual.

Yep. Happy Thanksgiving to the forum.

After piss-revving the hell out of a newly muff-modded MS441cm early this morning to wake the fam damily up, I'm sitting on the back patio drinking the Devil's Cut and smoking 4 racks of ribs and a 23lb turkey. Cause the grandkids like turkey....

Thankful for a lot of things today. Born American, thankful for my wife, kids, and the grandkids. And my saws. Defintely thankful for them.

Happy Thanksgiving to all, and good to see you post Eric.

Sorry to hear about the dropped saw, but as long as no one was hurt!

Sorta put the saws and firewood on the back burner for hunting season. Took a doe Monday afternoon but hope to get another (buck or doe) before the season is over. Was in the 30s here today, but will be much colder tomorrow and Fri, so I just got done putting the doe in the garage so it won't freeze. If you have ever tried to skin a deer after it froze, you know why.

Conversely the WE is supposed to be very warm, so I will likely butcher it then. You don't want to leave it hang if it gets much above 40.

Our plan for Thanksgiving this year is to go to my Stepson's in New Rochelle. Will be good to see them and their daughter, it will be her first Thanksgiving! She's a real good little one as she generally gives the wife and I a real nice smile when we pick her up … sure beats the ones that cry!

Enjoy everyone!

If we didn't let them hang above 40° in Virginia, they wouldn't ever hang! (I use 50° as the break-off point. Several years, I've had to fight off the yellow jackets when cutting up deer...)

Couple years ago, I had one small doe in the cooler and didn't cut her up because I was hoping to get another one or three so I could cut them up all at the same time...long story longer, she ended up sitting on ice in the cooler for two weeks or so until the season was over and I didn't get any more deer. Anyway, I ended up grinding her all up for hamburger, and I think that was the best deerburger I ever had. It really hung together when you cooked it (as a burger for example) and the flavor was just outstanding!

Letting a deer (or beef) hang really improves it a LOT in my experience...worst thing you can do is cut it up and freeze it while it still has rigor mortis...

Anyway, HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Agree with you, but I have also seen them go bad if you let them get too warm, especially if the deer is getting hit by the Sun. When the weather stays cool, I will often let them hang for 2 weeks.

Fish s/b fresh, Red Meat s/b aged.

Hope everyone has a fantastic day tomorrow. It's my favorite holiday.

As for saws. Haven't had time to even look at one never mind start or
even finish existing projects. At the end of some days i'm just to burn't
out to work in the garage. Wish I were young again.
