Just thought I’d share. eBay has 3/16 Carlton files made in Germany.

I’ve been sharpening my 325 with 5/16 which is a pain.

I ordered some new last night

This morning I found my 3/16 files that was damn near a whole dozen. Lol
So I’m stocked on them

You didn't like the way your .325 chain cut using the bigger file?

I meant 5 32. My mistake. It cut fine just a pain to “hold up” on the file to get it right. It works but I thought I lost my whole box of 3/16. Of course once I ordered new I found them all....

I used a 7 32 yesterday. It worked really well the wood was frozen so it left a dull sort of blunt edge. Not ideal but it was great for frozen logs

OK. I experimented last couple of weeks. I think my .325 chain cut best using a 13/64 file.
Really loads up the saw much better.

That will cut fast I’m sure. I’m doubtful it’s durable but it’ll go quick in green wood

Through my testing I did exact same thing you did. I found the cutter with larger hook cut about 3 seconds slower in same piece of wood. I went back to 13/64 file and got the 3 seconds back.

What you cutting? Oak? Bet this would be faster in say maple. It really depends on what you’re working in.

I cut red oak with the cutter I posted above. Cut pretty good.
I used MOFO 026 with 18" bar.

Ahh the good old days. I haven't ran the big saws for years, but after dropping three big Firs on the property a few days ago I have been firing up the old beasts.

Rounded up all the saw tools yesterday, most were in storage. Among the clutter was about 30 files, most 7/32, that were purchased way back in the 1970's. All new old stock. 26 Oregon and 4 marked "Swiss Made".

The Oregon files really cut well. A testimony to the days of yore when most of our stuff was made in the gold 'ol USA>
