Running is one thing, running at it's best is another. Most saws (not all) will benefit from some back pressure.
It depends on how it is ported.
I have. If you don't have enough adjustment left in your carb, you will loose low end. Hate to quote him, but the AH was right on that one!
I've also seen saws not idle right or spool up with too much opening. It may be just a can, but timing the pulses is important. Just like your most accurate loads in the gun will correspond with the barrel at the high or low point of the whip. It may not be a sophisticated tool, but it is a tool!
Fooled just about everyone at the Ct gtg. Ran like she was ported, only she is brand new and bone stock, except for the muffler mod. She idled smoothe as wet silk, accelerated and slowed down very quickly. Heck, I even milled with her in front of everyone.
