Do any of the sponsors here support John Deere mowers? Just picked up a JD 737 zero turn with the Kawi 23hp engine that is PUKING oil. Research shows a couple different possible culprits but I know I am going to need some parts regardless.

Suggestions?

last couple i dont was sump gasket. which has been updates to a different material if i remember correctly

Stinger is shown as L7. It is a pressure bleed, creates some back pressure to enhance performance.

Plot thickens.

P-60 piston after some cleanup.

I’ve found a chip and some gouges.
And the piston ring grooves look pretty carbonized.

After some rubbing with 400grit and red armor,
The scoring has gone down a bit.

Pin is really carbonized.

The jug has some cuts as well

Im not a pro but no one else is answerin u im a newb too. I see scored, cracked, and transfered. Wondering if u wanna go fishin tomorrow? Bet that thing will hold a 18' boat in a swift river heres ur grain of salt hope someone can help u tomorrow. That thing is a beast of a motor! Be a damn shame if its toast. Hope i got ya chucklin at least

It looks like just casting flaws, not real cracks, it should be fine, but pull the crank and see, could be bad

do you use a chemical when washing them in usc? i had a piston with carbon in ring gland and was thinking about putting it in usc but i have the hf powder in it didnt know if it would mess piston up

Yes I use Simple Green Branded Purple Power. Crazy thing is that regular brand simple green will etch aluminum, as will many branded purple powers (dep especially).

When they will etch, I find a foam on the top of the bath from the small bubbles (?hydrogen) that form. Then the aluminum comes out grey.

With the stuff I use, I can let a jug soak for a month without damage.

@Edwad wants a NOS 064/066 Ported Hybrid done the right way (after the JMS Debacle). I’m gracious that he asked me to do one.

Sodium hydroxide (caustic) causes that Doc. Caustic and aluminum don't mix well but the amount in cleaners is very low.
