Hi, I've got a couple 440/044 fuel tanks That I want to try and repair. I've got a plastic welder but I cant figure out what type of plastic the tanks are. I need to know so I can source other plastic to weld them with. If anyone knows It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Nathan

IMG_0077[1].JPG IMG_0078[1].JPG I patched one with JB weld and it's still holding fine. I have one 044 tank in particular that the tank is good but the handle has a crack (see picture) and I would like it to look neat. I'm hoping I can weld it then sand it smooth.

Do you think that weedeater string is the same type of plastic? Did it bond well?

Thanks for your reply, Nathan

I used a nylon filler for a crack on my 046 tank.
Did the job but was difficult to work with.
Just yesterday I grabbed a random stick of filler off the body shops plastic welder and used it on a Dolmar 111. Worked much better..I just need to go figure out what it was that was just laying there.

Thanks for the reply’s guys I appreciate it. I thought of using plastic off the tank but I wanted to avoid cutting on it if possible.I did some research and it looks like the difference between pa66 gf30 and pa6 gf30. Is that the pa66 is designed to be more heat and Uv resistant. I could be wrong though . I think that plastic radiator fan blades on a car/pickup are made out of the same plastic and nearly the same color. I may be making a trip to the local wrecking yard soon in search of a broken one.0E37A2B0-A619-44B0-8C11-0E7928E706CC.jpeg

Heres what I just used on my Dolmar handle.
I filled a pretty big gap with it too. Seems strong.

I'll thrash that saw this weekend to see how it holds up.
I would also say that while melting it together the filler turned clear, but dried and hardened to very close to the color of a Stihl tank.

Yea let me know if that holds well? That plastic is much easier too find in the right color than PA6-GF30.

Thanks, Nathan

What do you guys think? I just went and looked through my stuff and found this tank. It’s been crunched pretty bad and I’m thinking it may be best to just cut this one up and use it as a donor for the other tanks I have?

I have fixed and patched several stihl tanks using fusor 208B. It's structural body panel adhesive from the body shop. Have a huge hole on my 362 fuel tank fixed with it and half the clutch cover is made out of the stuff.

Has been holding up great. Originally did it for a quick fix but decided to see how long it would last. Stuff takes a beating I can verify that.

Okay, I might try that on my other fuel tank. The previous owner ran a clutch cover with the back broken out and the chain chewed a hole in the tank:shakehead:.

I just looked the fusor 208b up and yikes that stuff is expensive. I was seeing around $45-$50 bucks. On eBay and Amazon.
