I purchased 2 gallons of the semi synthetic (pictured above) because some guys here run it and said it was pretty good. I ran it in one of my fresh ported 066’s (New 288 Meteor piston, new bearings and rubbers). Felled & bucked a few big oaks & maples one weekend and ran out to work for an emergency, so I just put the saw away. IIRC, I stayed ridiculously busy at work and finally had time a couple of weeks later to pull the muffler cover for a little look. What I saw pissed me off. The saw was so dry everywhere and the piston was corroding pretty badly. I have been running VP SEF exclusively and mixxed the Lucas at 5oz per gallon. The corrosion and dryness was so bad that I squirt some mix into the exhaust port before I turned it over just so I didn’t do any more damage. The pictures speak for themselves. I’ve never seen this with any of the other oils I’ve ran, and I’ve tried just about everything.

Saw was tuned to 13,200 and still to this day will 4 stroke to beyond 15,000

That was one single wipe across the corroded part of the piston.

Some guys have said that Lucas isn’t good for storage. I’ll agree wholeheartedly with that, but add that 2 weeks isn’t my idea of storage.

Well known and very respected guys here still run it, and have posted tear down pictures of it and it looked great, that’s why I purchased the 2 gallons. But I believe that they tore it down the same day that it was used.

I’ll say that it does work good for keeping the alumahogs clean.

I gave one of the gallons away ( @paragonbuilder ) ??

Here's a report I found on the internet about how more oil increases power:

"I have run Dyno tests on this subject. We used a Dynojet dynamometer, and used a fresh, broken in top-end for each test. We used specially calibrated jets to ensure the fuel flow was identical with each different ratio, and warmed the engine at 3000 rpm for 3 minutes before each run. Our tests were performed in the rpm range of 2500 to 9000 rpm, with the power peak of our test bike (a modified '86 YZ 250, mine) occurring at 8750 rpm. We tested at 76 degrees F, at 65% relative humidity. We started at 10:1, and went to 100:1. Our results showed that a two-stroke engine makes its best power at 18:1. Any more oil than that, and the engine ran poorly, because we didn't have any jets rich enough to compensate for that much oil in the fuel, and the burn-characteristics of the fuel with that much oil tended to be poor. The power loss from 18:1 to 32:1 was approximately 2 percent. The loss from 18:1 to 50:1 was nearly 9 percent. On a modern 250, that can be as much as 4 horsepower. The loss from 18:1 to 100:1 was nearly 18 percent. The reason for the difference in output is simple. More oil provides a better seal between the ring and the cylinder wall. "
Guy's forget or just don't know you can tune a 2T to run on any mix ratio.
More oil doesn't mean more smoke and carbon build up if that is happening it's one of two thing's crap tune or crap oil.
When heaps of wet black sludge runs out of the exhaust of a saw with good tune at higher oil ratios in general just means find a better burning oil designed for a saw. IMHO

Ok, I thought about trying it, so I was looking for some info. Do you know what ratios it was tried at?

I’m not a respected member however 40:1 was not enough for any of my saws. Lucas cost me a rod bearing. I used most of a quart of oil . I’ll just guess maybe 5 to 7 gallons of fuel . I ran it in a ported 346xp along with a few other saws
The 346 rod bearing wore enough that the piston slapped the roof enough to pinch a ring. Saw never started again.
I checked my 272xp after that failure and my exhaust side of the piston was dry to the touch.
I do tune my saws for performance not super hog rich.
However I switched immediately to the cheapest husqvarna low smoke oil and rechecked my 272 the exhaust side was shiny after a few good long cuts in a test log I had kept out back.
Summary use any oil you’d like I’d suggest not to use Lucas I’m not picky about my oil but I would not use that

I guess my point is I was using the Lucas long enough for it to actually cause a problem on a high revving saw. Wasn’t like I ran two tank full and ran something lean. It took several gallons for the issue to show itself. The saws ran well all of them just not enough lube in that oil for the lower end.
I’m not a saw mechanic but listen to @Moparmyway he knows more than I care to learn about them. They’re basically just a tool I use at work. The pictures of that 346 are in this oil thread somewhere. Been a few years back now

I'm new so I don't want to start any oil wars but RedArmor is what I run in everything including my mowers and blowers. Only thing I don't like is it's hard to see red gas in a red gas can. Minor complaint.

I got a bottle of this goo for free a year or so ago and haven't opened it yet. I'll use it eventually... at 40:1.
