What happens when you straight gas a saw?

OP if you're going to the trouble of identifying which containers have oil, and which don't, then may i suggest you obtain some oil dye so this don't happen again?

Once i do the paper thing im going to mark the jugs with marker so i know for feature reference.

Hopefully I won't ever have this issue again. This is just a one off thing.

I've never seen any mixed fuel that is clear. What brand is it?

And again, it may just be that I'm paranoid but I ran a tank of what I was 95% sure was mixed through my red light 660 today, the saw still has some bugs that need worked out, but I was just playing around with one of the 36" Oregon bars I picked up a year or so ago on a freshly fallen red oak on one of the pieces of property I plan to clear. Anyways, it was having trouble starting after I would shut it off (tree in a really *s-wordty spot over a creek, getting bar stuck and having to use wedges). I would have to turn it to the high idle to get it to start back without holding the throttle open. I tweaked the carb a hair and that fixed it. Also while I was playing with the carb close to the end of that tank of gas, the compression felt just a tad low. I tested it last night and came up with 152psi. I may just be paranoid, but imma yank the exhaust off tomorrow and double check

Ha me too man. The dam piston still had the white finish on it and the cylinder looked almost new before I ran it today. Only thing that really scared me was the semi low compression once I was almost done with the tank. Might just be where I was getting used to yanking on a no decomp saw with no elasto start but we will see

You asked how to keep from wrecking your saw by maybe putting the wrong can of gas in it.
Like it was said don’t even chance it. Run the questionable gas in anything that didn’t require mix.
Go get gas you are sure about.
Or take a chance and rebuild your saw again. At least you will know how to do that over and over

Yea most of it has been run through generators and splitters. I just still get nervous. But I mean is there any way to tell you have the wrong fuel in a saw before it ducks itself up?

No, by the time you figure it out it is too late.

Whatever can You take fuel from simply lace it with 2-stroke oil at 50:1 assuming it's pure gasoline - better safe than sorry!
That's what I would do anyways.

Yep..25:1 is fine if you retune.

I wouldn't buy the mixed stuff in the first place. I would buy the straight fuel and put my own oil in it.

That's usually what I do in most cases. Just really convenient to throw a jug of this stuff in the truck box and not have to worry about it spilling or anything. Plus it was too cheap to pass up

I've had mix gas go clear before stored in a marked can. It smells mixed but doesn't look it. I've been paranoid enough to add more oil at a 40:1 rate or run it in my mower and mix a new batch when I need it.

I've been buying the 4 stroke 95 octane Sunoco at menards. After running canned fuel, I hate the smell of regular gas in 2 strokes.

Somebody Poast pitchers of all the damage they’ve done using too much oil. The rags you use to wipe off the excessive exhaust spooge will never look the same. Just throw them in the wood stove.

I've never really seen what typically happens to a straight gased saw. What happens?

Reason for asking, I got a really good deal at RK on some premix and I bought a chit ton, turns out a few jugs were non mixed, straight gas. And I let them sit out in the rain and now most of the labels are gone. Both the mixed and straight are clear so I can't really tell that way. I think I know which are which but I keep getting super paranoid when I fuel up a saw.

How easy will I be able to tell if I have straight gas in a saw? like will it sound/rev different. Smell different, have more power? and how long will it run for until she takes a shat?

My suggestion is... although some have said use it in a 4stroke... get some known straight fuel [no 2stroke mix] dip your finger/s in it till there wet and rub them together, the fuel will evaporate and you will get a a feeling of dry and no lube after it’s evaporated.
Wash your hands/fingers Then get some fresh mixed 2stroke fuel and do the same, once the fuel has evaporated between your fingers you will feel the slippery lube still there.
Once you know the feeling you will be able to do and tell without looking .

It’s something worth a try. Even if you don’t have a problem, because one day you may need the knowledge.
Although I,m sure there’s other more Scientific ways..
