I got a stuck piston on a Titan saw. Lets say I got it to move. What are the chances of it ever working. If I get it to move I will take it apart and clean. Anyone ever have any luck doing this. I know there are a lot of variables. Rust broken rings . Should I just take a BFH to it and free it up then take it apart and go from there. Going to start with the Kroil. Thanks

Everyone talks about ATF to free a stuck piston. At least try to lube it before you start whacking on it.

I had two stuck pistons on my Titan RE. I kept trying PB blaster for better than two weeks daily to no avail. I tried the 50% mix of acetone/ATF and within 24 hours it came free safely.

I will mix sum up. Did you still have to take it apart and install rings or piston or just fire it up.

ATF have very short chain lipids for lubricant, and acetone as a petroleum distillate breaks down lots of corrosion. It works well. A commercial product that is head and shoulders above PB Blaster, WD40, and other household products is “Kroil”. But in a pinch ATF and Acetone is the next best thing.

For the ATF/acetone mix, try to use a non-synthetic tranny fluid like a Dex3/Mercon. In my experience, the synthetic stuff has a tendency to separate from the acetone pretty quick....not the greatest thing when ur doin a soak.

Being from 1947, yea, it had to come apart. It will get a new top ring on each piston, deal's and a complete fuel system clean and rebuild.

I dunno, I got lucky and was given the two I got. The Titan twins have 3 rings, two on the top and one on the bottom of the piston. The top ring was frozen and I was stupid and tried to remove it carefully but should have tried a sonic bath first. Maybe it still would still have been stuck, I'll never know.

I've come across two of those in this life. The other was a Bluestreak that I sold before I was into the really old saws. Most that have them know what they are a d won't part with them. I have an 11 foot bar for mine.
