I do wonder if that cylinder would sing a bit more if I matched the muffler to the outlet and added a second port or at least enlarged the existing one. The exhaust outlet on the cylinder turned out a fair bit larger than the muffler opening once I was finished grinding it.

As we discussed, I think that Saw is in desperate need of a MM to compliment the exhaust port changes.

The second saw in your videos seemed to hold more rpm in the wood.
I tend to agree with you but Josh ran both saws and said that the first (which is the KS cylinder I ported) felt stronger to him.

Sorry but we didn't tach them in the cut. It had just finished snowing and I knew I was going to get called back to work, which I did just as we finished the vids we got. I can say that the first saw tuned to 13.2k and still was 4-stroking.

I'm sure that matching that muffler to the exhaust outlet will help, but by how much? I know one part of the porting job that left me feeling dissatisfied due to my limitations with the tools I have is the transfers, as I have mentioned here earlier. This KS cylinder compared next to the Mahle is quite different, particularly in that the transfers are much smaller. Now I did gain upper transfer window area when I raised and widened them, but the lowers and mids is where I think they still need a fair bit of work, and I'm just not able to do that yet...at least not on a cylinder that doesn't belong to me. What I think I did accomplish was to make this early KS cylinder with what I feel is an inferior port layout compared to the Mahle run at least as strong as the Mahle. I hope this makes Dale happy and as I have told him privately, I would gladly take the cylinder back to work those transfers more once we get our proper grinding tools. I think that is the bulk of why I seem to have left something on the table with this cylinder.

All said and done, it's certainly no dog.. but I'm not feeling the "Wow" factor just yet. I think the basic timing numbers are good, but I need to work those transfers thoroughly and mod that muffler to get it really breathing better

Another thought as I sit here pondering... I need to advance the timing as suggested by Danimal via PM.

Been chatting with Dale via text, he tells me he is not in a hurry so I can do some more experimentation. I've decided to match and mod the muffler as well as advance the ignition timing.

Stay tuned, I think these additional changes may yield some descent results. That muffler I got SOUNDS restrictive compared to Josh's. I wonder though, enlarge the existing, or add a second port? What do you guys think?

I’m no saw porter, just a dude that likes to run saws lol, but I’ve heard and read so many times “power is made/found in the transfers”. So your probably on the right track. I think timing advance .20 would gain a bit and match muffler to cylinder.
