How do I sand the base with the cylinder extension?

Will a belt sander and slow rotation work?

Also, "cutting the band". Can I do this with a wood chisel? Then sand afterwards?

Seems a bit more complicated than I thought originally.

Yes. It can be done this way. I heard it on the interwebs...

I see there is a bigger piston and cylinder made for this saw. The 272 cylinder has a 2mm larger bore. This saw is 50mm.

Got a buddy who's gonna dig through the pile and see if he can come up with one for me.

There are aftermarket 272 cylinders available at a reasonable price on eBay. Thoughts?

How big should I make the ports so it runs better?
You might need a different top cover if you go with the 272 cyl the plug angle changed a few times in that series of saws.

Just sand that cylinder extension off. With the bigger jug maybe the extra case capacity will help torque! And it'll be easier to check the base for flat when you are done.
Doesn't it stabilize the piston at BDC?

Would be alot easier if I could cut it off.

If I'm careful, can probably take a saw blade amount off the base in one cut.

It's just aluminum... throw that jug on a miter saw with a carbide blade and cut the base. You don't need those extension wings, those are just to keep us simpletons from modding our own saws. Be careful though sharp things are dangerous, don't want to loose a hoof. o_O
