Walbro 194 to Hop Up Stihl 026?

Fellas -

I have a nice 026 Pro that I use a fair amount. Has squish set at .021" and muffler mod, but that's about it. Runs 3/8 chain on 18" bar. It's tuned well, runs very good. Less than 10 tanks of fuel since I rebuilt it.

I have heard that the Walbro 194 is a really nice upgrade. Having said that, I'm not sure what carb is on there now, but looking at the IPL, looks like my saw should have the WT-403A carburetor, part number 1121 020 0610.

If I do have the 403A carburetor, should I see some improvement with the 194? Looks like I can get a new 194 for $63 on eBay; I don't mind doing that if I'll see some results.

I'd check as there's a good chance you have a 194 on there.

Imo you wouldn’t see a whole lot of performance gain from that, if you’re really wanting hp I recommend swapping on an 044 carb and running a green weenie filter. Doc is probably the guy to ask, he’s probably tested the carbs in question against each other.

edit: stock is another variable, I would guess a ported saw sees a larger gain from the 044 carb, hopefully others chime in.

Not a huge difference between the two, unless ported, I think. I swapped a stock 026 to the 194 and it was not a major upgrade, and a standard 024 had a 194. It’s a good carb, but not going to transform the saw unless it’s not a fully adjustable carb

Believe the venturi are the same on all those carbs. The 194 isn’t a hop up. It just gives you the added benefit of a high speed screw

I think my 024’s had wt22 vs the wt194, still fully adjustable but I think they have a smaller jet in them. Tried one on an 026 and it just didn’t seem to run quite right.

024's and early 026's has the wt22 I believe. A couple I got with metal badge had the 22's on them.

Idk, maybe it’s regional, or someone swapped something, I had two standard 024’s and when I sold it I swapped the 194 to a 22 and kept the 194 for my 026

I had a 024s with a 22 on it. Swapped to a 194, but she didn’t like that. Went back to the 22 and ran like a top. My zoo city 026 and stock 026 have 194.
