I had a surprise visitor today, Floyd (fwgsaw over on A.S.) dropped in absolutely out of the blue. Floyd is from Montana and he and his family were on their way to Columbus, OH to watch a soccer game. We spent a couple of hours visiting and looking around.

Floyd has an amazing collection of rare vintage saws himself including a whole family of the early versions of the McCulloch 3-25 models as well as very early saws from the PNW region.

I think next year I will take the northern route to Oregon again and try to take some of it in as I pass by.

Floyd is a big man and I am an extra medium.

I was able to see Floyd in his old place a few years ago as I made my way to Oregon. I think I collected about 50 saws from him at that time.

Next weekend is our town "Watermelon Days" (not sure why, we don't grow watermelons anywhere around here) so I asked my local tree guy to drop off a couple of logs so we can demonstrate some vintage saws in action.

I needed to trim the big one up a bit so the forklift would handle it.

We split the cut offs and hauled the wood to my house, and made sure to clean up our mess.

There are still two buildings between 609 and the fire location, which is now an empty lot. The owner of that property was so upset with the city for not letting him build apartments (parking issues would not let him meet code) that he has done nothing with it.

I hope he didn't buy a dozer!

Are there McCulloch chains that are neither 3/8" nor .325" pitch? 🤔

.........Some 'dozers are bigger than others.

I grew up running dozers of all sizes.

I always wanted to run a Allis HD41 but never got a chance. Back in about 1998 I was at the CAT dealer in Des Moines Iowa. They had a new D11 on site. I got up in it but I was not allowed to "play" because it was sold to McAninch construction out of Des Moines IA. They were the king of Iowa highway construction back then. Apparently no longer. One of my sons is the heavy haul person for the regional Deere dealer. A week ago Saturday we were at a show and he was naming off all the major highway construction jobs across Iowa and McAninch was not getting them.
