This is a big reason why Amazon is taking over. Why deal with the post offices bull, waiting 3+ weeks for a package when Amazon has it there in 2 days. I have a husky saw and a part for my tractor that are both over a week late and counting. They can't deliver packages in the time frame the customer pays for but sure don't have a problem charging you full price. Junk mail sure doesn't have a problem showing up right away though. If the usps would quit worrying about that bullshitt maybe they could focus on people's mail that actually matters. I get 5+ pieces of junk mail daily that goes right in the woodburner. I've come to the conclusion this world is fukked. Everything is falling apart
Makes me wonder if this true. I know all of my packages that come from Amazon, are delivered through the post office. Not sure if this is the same in other areas. I think Amazon packages may be getting some priority, as far as delivery times go, possibly pushing actual usps customers to the back burner. I have no idea of the actual logistics...but this seems to be a possibility to me.

I have received some Amazon packages where the last leg is USPS. Also some eBay stuff from China that way.

Lately, it’s been Amazon vans all over the place. Last box might have been UPS?

Amazon has one of their giant fulfillment centers not far from here, but some recent purchases went from Aurora, IL to Kentucky, to Minnesota.

So I believe that it all comes down to algorithms about space, time, cost, weight, distance, etc., that include a lot of options.

As far as USPS, I don’t know what went on with all the recent ‘restructuring’ that was mentioned in the news, including distribution centers, sorting machines, overtime, etc.

Don’t want to get into the politics. We like our like our letter carrier. He carries treats, and all the dogs in the neighborhood watch for him!

Here Amazon has their own delivery service, tracking numbers and its completely separate from the usps. Theres lettered Amazon delivery trucks running up and down the road here all day. Eventually it'll probably be the same by you.

Thanks for the shipper’s perspective Dave.

I am still waiting for a ‘2-Day’ Priority Mail package someone sent me November 28.

Amazon stuff has been showing up within their extended time frames, although, some have been dropped off on my porch sometime between 11PM (last time I looked) and 7AM (when I looked out for the paper).

Hope someone else is delivering the COVID vaccine!

Some businesses get slightly better shipping rates if they ship Smart Post through UPS or Fedex. The carriers only have to make 1 stop, to USPS.
The whole infrastructure is overloaded as a result of covid. The carriers have been getting volume, for the better part of the year, that would only be seen during the Christmas season. Now, add the Christmas season volume to what they already have. On top of that, employees testing positive that have to quaranteen. So, short on workers.
I see our mail carriers on their way to work every morning. They get there the same time every day, yet leave the post office later because of the volume. Often they have to go back and load a second time to be able to finish their route. Our UPS driver confirms that his loads have been at least 50% more since early summer. Now they have added second shift deliveries 4 weeks sooner than normal.
Tracking is FUBAR. Anything coming from other countries is sitting on docks not moving.
Small business owners are getting blasted by customers wanting their orders, delivery people are getting blasted for them not getting their orders on time. It's interesting to see how some of the human race can react to something out of the norm.
Fast forward. Equipment not set up to handle the volume for this length of time starts to break down. Delivery vehicles on the road twice as long and have less time for maintenance. Employees on the ragged edge (many are part time and get no benefits). You see where I'm going here?
I try to let our delivery people know we appreciate them. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes.

Mind you, this is only a small part of a chain reaction, that will affect every industry and every person in the world. It's happened many times in history, and we are making history now. The question is, how will we react?

I should mention that I sent out 2 FedEx packages in the last week or so: one to Chicago area, and the other to Los Angeles area, and they both arrived within their expected time frame. Can't promise that everyone will have the same results.

*BTW: FedEx 'OneRate' pricing is often similar to the USPS 'Flat Rate' pricing, especially for packages traveling shorter distances. I packed a FedEx 'Medium' box with 14+ pounds of stuff, and got it to Chicago for less than a USPS 'Medium' box. Pricing varies with distance.

- Mailed November 28

"December 3, 2020: In Transit, Arriving Late. Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility. "

(No further updates).

They must be going back to that biblical definition of 'a day'?

No problem - not a time sensitive thing for me, but could be an issue for many others!

I’ve got the exact same thing going on. Sent a saw to Ohio on 11/20. Made it to Grand Rapids in 2 days and then nothing

*edited to say Ohio, not Indiana

Well slick I have a business to run. First your "little guy" has fukked me over more times than I can count by taking my money and lying about having product and shipping anything. Second that delays me from getting my work done for customers which in turn pisses them off at me. Third gfy because I'm not the problem here. I have to put food on the table just like the next guy so take your bullshitt and go yell at the ones who don't deliver. Do i want to give Jeff bezos money... no but there aren't many options right now

Who exactly is the little guy? UPS and FedEx profit billions of dollars every year
'Little Guy' has to get product shipped in by UPS / USPS / FedEx / DHL, etc., unless making it locally.
Many ship out to customers by the same means, or sell oneBay, Amazon, Etsy, etc.
These shipping snafus affect all.

Also I've noticed alot of the small businesses I've dealt with in the past now sell through Amazon. They basically just drop ship from Amazon. Was that a kind of a "can't beat then join them" move? Idk but that's what I take from it

NOPE-- a day is a day usually in the context of an historic time frame.
These folks failed to prepare for an influx of business. They got the warnings in the summer. The guy at a post office I do business with told me.
They failed to prepare for the Christmas rush before it came. They did not "man up" and let the train hit them on the tracks. I'm all for being fair, but if you knew summer turned up the heat like the Christmas rush you had to know that Christmas was going to be a nuclear melt down! Ok, I feel better now. Carry on:icon_popcorn:
