Hi Folks, I'm new here from Canada. Bit of a saw addict, just aquired a CS400 echo. Seems like a nice little saw. Tuning it in and noticed it must have a limited coil at like 12k rpm or something. Is there a coil I can swap on that isnt limited? I can modify things if needed. Was planning on porting this thing.

cheers!

Has anyone tried the china coils? What about a coil off of a 4910?

If I remember correctly, these are limited to the lower 13k range. However, if the saw is running lean, blipping the throttle repeatedly can confuse the coil and let it rev wide open. I've already had them over 16k. If someone was really good with electronics, I'm sure there is a circuit that could be disabled in the coil.

I set it to hit the limiter and then dialed it in a bit tuning it in the cut. The saw is a strong runner right now, numbers are almost stock but wider ports, untouched transfers and a muffler mod. I just dont like this limited coil business :p

Since the module in the CS-400 is computerized, you would have to modify the program that is executed there.
Regardless, the module is encapsulated in a protective compound, which prevents access to the internal components and makes modifications rather impractical.

I really like this little saw. Is there no coil that can swap over? I guess I just need something that has the same magnet spacing and similar flywheel diameter. Can broach a new flywheel key or whatever is required if i need to. Has anyone done that before? Wonder if an 026 coil will work. I have a few of those laying around
