I believe the timing on this saw isn’t the best. Remember, there were limitations to where things could go.

The thing is nearly impossible to start, even with the decomp.

The plan is to drop the jug a bit to change the timing, add a Husky Decomp, and add a Stihl “D” rescue handle.

I’ll remove some more from the chamber to drop comp a bit further.

I’ll post results.

The saw runs Very Good, but I think a lack of air/fuel may be limiting it's performance. Most of the strong running 660s I've seen either have velocity stacks, or foam filtration. We have stock air filter (AM) on this one.

A 660 intake does not look any larger than a 440 intake, so I think this is a very possible area of restriction for a big bore. We will play with it a little and give it a chance to break in.

My biggest complaint is I had to develop a two handed method of starting it, but I got it down now! The decomp on the saw is worthless, pops as soon as you start to pull it, you are actually better off not having it, cause it bites you!

Full disclosure: My arms are still worn out from Sat (3 of us cut over 15 cord), so I can barely grip anything, which contributes to the problem. So, I am part of the problem, that said, my 2 handed pull method works great!

I think I'll call it "old man" starting!

I'd just throw a wing nut on the air filter and get rid of the cover

The 1122 boot is about 1mm larger than the 1128. Lol
I think the 1122 boot should work just fine, it's the carb that may need a little work to increase fuel flow.

Maybe double check the recoil axle and other components for crud or excessive wear if you haven't already done that.

This is a relatively new Chinese knockoff, all the same components that were starting the Cross jug just fine. The new P&C seems tough.

I ran it briefly today w/o a filter, and not surprisingly it felt a good deal stronger. I'm going to put a Max Flo on it and see how it does.

These noodles were thrown with the filter still on! (Elm)

I'm sure the big saw will benefit from any additional air + fuel it can get!

I was thinking of making a vid of that. I use a loop of 1" nylon (about 12"), put one end around my right wrist like a dog leash, then put it over the pull cord handle and hold the loop together with the left hand (almost like a golf club hold).

Put my right foot through the handle, the left foot on the near side of the top handle (kind of over the recoil as much as possible), then just pull up with both hands. Works great! I could never start this beast with just a one hand pull.

Mr Mustangmike, I am a old man and I am interested in how you start these high compression saws. I have a problem with my high compression saws. As I got older, I went to my smaller saws as my go to saw. A vld would be nice so us older guys to see your method of starting the saw. Thanks.
