Was back in this saw yesterday. Saw was timed at 100/Fingers 117/119/81

Cheap AM gaskets had there rubber melting away anywhere mix hit.

Ground strap was hitting piston. I made a relief for that.

Any opinions on the piston wash? I think the transfers were backstuffing from not enough Blowdown. I raised the exhaust to 96-97.

I think it’s why the saw underperformed.

Was the plug gap closed some or was it just kissing it?
Wash looks to me like it’s back stuffing as well.

Gap ok, possibly a bit tight.

I’m gonna swap in a shorter plug, like you did on the 262.

I was cornfused about the orientation of that piston when I first saw it yesterday .......... then I remembered it had fingers.

My first thought was ports are aiming up and the fuel charge was missing the piston, but it’s not even washed on the edge. Hence my agreement on the spent charge backstuffing the transfers.
The fingers that crack first are washing the entire intake side of the piston, they are doing what they should it looks like.
My vote goes towards blowdown which you’ve addressed now.

I was thinking exhaust was on the right side ............ then I saw the plug witness mark, then remembered fingers, then the bulb went on.

Almost looks like the fingers are flowing too well, or venting needed case pressure before they should.

I also think the AM carb was only providing a minimal amount of fuel, could not get it to really 4 stroke, I made sure I kept the bar in the wood. Hope this info is of some value.

Looking forward to seeing the impact of the changes, which include a new carb and exhaust #.

Try a few plugs, the ground strap are all clocked differently on them. You should of be able to find one with the ground strap facing up when seated. Or you can take off the stock gasket and try different thickness copper washers to get the strap clocked properly
