Interesting thread. I never knew palm trees were acidic or that concrete damaged magnesium. Never too old to learn.

Yea, The Palm tree is new to Me ???
I Cut Down Two, & Up. Probably didn't clean them up Correctly afterwards ( ( Honestly Don't Remember )) one of Which Was Massive, But The Fibers Destroy Air Filters For Sure ( Solo 690 ) NLA. Was Worried that I Melted Down the Top End, Luckily Just Destroyed The Air Filter.

I don't really understand why concrete will corrode mag. But I've seen some with bottom ccorroded saw.

I would only add that it would be much easier to service. If you wanted to replace a crank no splitting of the cases needed.

I think it has to do with electrolysis, I see this happen often with copper pipe touching concrete. Sometimes it’s fine other times it’s rotted right through. This is the reason code requires a sleeve or to wrap it in electrical tape before penetrating.

My MS250 will run right past a 550 xp or a 261. Only opened the muffler and 3/8lp conversion. Has yet to let me down. Little clamshell is a straight ripper!

I converted my Echo 490 from .325 to 3/8 lp and it’s a totally different saw. Plus opened up the muffler but even with that the .325 was an under performer.

Let's not forget, most of us are saw snobs. My reason.....my wife found a saw at a yard sale and was thinking of me. A 310 that had been last used to cut through a carpeted floor. It ran, cost $150. I sent it to Randy (when he would work on used saws) to get some rehab. Came back a new beast. Sounds like a small dirt bike and with an 18-20" bar can stay with, or very close to my ported 440. Did I mention it is loud and sounds cool.

Is that a 550xp with muffler mod or 550xp MK2 with muffler mod?

Snort! Only if your 250 was in a faster pickup truck than the 550 or 261.

Doesn't need to be. It was embarrassing for the 550 and 261. And to think its about half the price too!

My bro in law has a ms290 that he got in around 2005. He heats with wood and cuts a lot of wood every year as he sells some too. Other than worn out clutch drums and bars and chains and a worm gear the saw has never failed him. For him i would say the horrible clamshell creamsicle was a pretty good investment.
