Great job!
That'll make some mighty fine firewood.

I figured it was going to be hollow in the bottom but it’s solid as a rock. I’m going to turn a bunch to firewood and mat drag a section of the trunk to a local mill. Very top is rotted out where it broke off. I kinda wonder what happened to it, looks like it might have taken a lightening strike, but I have no real way of knowing.

Around here (and up at my property) often rotted tops are a sign of a past gypsy moth infestation.

Thanks, I’ve never seen them but I’ll have to keep an eye out and put out traps next year. I’ve got quite a few hundred + year old hickory and oaks on my property that is hate to lose.

This one was at the edge of this grove.

Nice work.
Was just going thru my pictures last night and saw all the damaged/downed trees from a wind storm in the summer of 2019. I was real sick at the time(probably the test version of covid ;)), I didn't want to ask anyone to come over to help on them, because if I started coughing I would be useless for 4-6hrs and many of the trees were as yours in precarious positions and lots of odd forces still being attached to the root ball.
Sure stinks loosing 20 trees near the house, I finally finished cleaning up the last of the ones near the house last dec and into January so I could build the chicken coop this summer.
