Yes it was a nice clean woods, wish they all was so clean. Timber was kinda small though so there is always a trade offThat's a really nice looking woods to work in.

Yeah, they are pretty ugly. Several sets of these fir and oak inter-tangled and fused together. I am planning on falling this as a double like you said, and I’ve got a couple 3-4 foot fir behind them to persuade them if need be. I’m fully manufacturing this stuff, so it is a little slow. Lots of oak as well. Can you fall that set broadside as a set of doubles? That's some ugly old wood you're chewin' on there...
Sure amazing how well these little saws pull a 36 isn't it?View attachment 278499 View attachment 278500 View attachment 278501 View attachment 278502 A couple white fir from today. 500i with a 36.
It pulls it fairly well and oils it just fine. The AV isn’t really designed for it though IMO. My 500 is having a hard time restarting at the moment. I need to check it out.Sure amazing how well these little saws pull a 36 isn't it?
Glad you still have ash where you are. Emerald ash borers wiped them out around here; the last ones died two years ago.Cut, topped and skidded ash. Time for lunch now.
Why is nobody fabricating stiffer AV for the 500 or the 661? Seems like there would be a sizeabe market for it especially in the PNW.It pulls it fairly well and oils it just fine. Yup this is probably some of the last nice ash I’ll cut.Glad you still have ash where you are. Emerald ash borers wiped them out around here; the last ones died two years ago.
Do yall ever run across any hardwood burls, I'd like to get my hands on a couple for some different knife handle material.

I have been finding quite a few smaller burls in my strip I'm cutting that have been exposed after the fire went thru.Do yall ever run across any hardwood burls, I'd like to get my hands on a couple for some different knife handle material.

Dogwood , madrone, maple.
I'll find one and pack it outA Madrone burl would be right up Marshall's alley. I saw some old-growth Madrone out of Perkins Creek that Roseburg Lumber milled into flooring - it turned out great.
We logged 45 acres of it and it was about 60-65 years old on average with a few sticks that were probably double that age.
I think even the new little saws have too soft of AV. It feels good, but they don't handle well. Echo top handles are jumpy, even the 545/550xp are a bit jumpy in a way since the AV gives so much the bar can move a lot and dig in all of a sudden. I notice it more when cutting with the top of the bar.Why is nobody fabricating stiffer AV for the 500 or the 661? Seems like there would be a sizeabe market for it especially in the PNW.
