That's a really nice looking woods to work in.
Yes it was a nice clean woods, wish they all was so clean. Timber was kinda small though so there is always a trade off
How do you like it?

So far I have nothing but good things to say about it. A mild muffler mod, 8 pin, and modified some 661r spikes. Inner fit but outer needed clearanced. I've owned several 661 and honestly for no more power difference than there is between the 2 I'd choose the 500i hands down. The weight savings is where its at for what I do. Now, I still run a ported 395 some also. But thats just to mix it up a little and have fun

Can you fall that set broadside as a set of doubles? That's some ugly old wood you're chewin' on there...
Yeah, they are pretty ugly. Several sets of these fir and oak inter-tangled and fused together. I am planning on falling this as a double like you said, and I’ve got a couple 3-4 foot fir behind them to persuade them if need be. I’m fully manufacturing this stuff, so it is a little slow. Lots of oak as well.

It pulls it fairly well and oils it just fine. The AV isn’t really designed for it though IMO. My 500 is having a hard time restarting at the moment. I need to check it out.
Why is nobody fabricating stiffer AV for the 500 or the 661? Seems like there would be a sizeabe market for it especially in the PNW.

Ended up cutting about 40 trees today, most are in this pile but there are a couple behind skidder out in the woods.
E5D6829F-AAA2-47A8-833A-AEF71637CEC3.jpeg This is how much fuel I used today, the can holds about 1.2-1.3 gallons so I probably burned about a gallon. Good fuel economy out of the 572. 9B3F4D27-6702-4906-8E07-4E8B25160B03.jpeg36” white pine F74D51B0-FE80-46C8-8092-8ED65A09791C.jpeg Time to go home and relax.

Do yall ever run across any hardwood burls, I'd like to get my hands on a couple for some different knife handle material.

I might be able to send you a block of Myrtlewood - that stuff cuts and finishes very nicely. I've got some Myrtlewood I've been aging for a couple years.

I have been finding quite a few smaller burls in my strip I'm cutting that have been exposed after the fire went thru.
Dogwood , madrone, maple.

A Madrone burl would be right up Marshall's alley. I saw some old-growth Madrone out of Perkins Creek that Roseburg Lumber milled into flooring - it turned out great.

We logged 45 acres of it and it was about 60-65 years old on average with a few sticks that were probably double that age.

I'll find one and pack it out

I think even the new little saws have too soft of AV. It feels good, but they don't handle well. Echo top handles are jumpy, even the 545/550xp are a bit jumpy in a way since the AV gives so much the bar can move a lot and dig in all of a sudden. I notice it more when cutting with the top of the bar.
