Has your hood broke yet? I broke 2. Both in a couple days
Not yet, but I haven’t been in a lot of brush and what not, so I haven’t had to run it at WOT without much load a whole lot. That looks like a weak spot on it. I’ve had problems with the 661 hood as you know, but I got plenty of time out of it before that happened.

Wow, didn’t think it would be that much. That’s like a 390xp compared to a 60cc saw. Even on our “easy” east coast ground (compared to you guys on those slopes) that would be a lot of trips back to the can. Not to mention packing more out to the timber. I wonder how much more in fuel cost that is per year? For a firewood guy fuel economy might not matter like it does for us though.
That’s why I (and many others) have the little bottles of gas and oil on our belts to extend our range a bit. As you have mentioned, you’re not getting wood on the ground when you are fueling up, and you do that a lot with the 500.

Your Hybrid is a 440/460.

As for fuel mileage it does better than them new fangled 500s: who would have thunk it, a 15 yr old saw with 35 yr old tech being more efficient than a new one.

I know a lot of years ago some Australian eucalyptus hardwoods were taken to California that looks a lot like red gum if it is when it's green extremely heavy but a treat to cut but wait 2 or 3 years when it's properly dry hard as hell a PITA to cut and still very heavy and some of the best firewood you will ever get .

I believe this is the euc you speak of. Cut the pink stuff down last summer and noodled it for fun this am. Too bad it’s all cracked but might try to get some boards out of it.

The pile of big logs is the yard next to my shop...gonna start hauling some over and getting a workout. Old, dry, and cracked, but maybe will get some slabs out of it. Firewood anyway. Lots of it.

The tree I posted a pic before but some may not have noticed I’m in the pic for size reference. It’s 8’ dia and guessing about 80’. Monster. Guy wants it gone, maybe I will tackle it some day.

Left a couple dollars behind with a stump that high.
Funny thing...those are what we call salt cedars here. Imported from Asia a long time ago by the railroad for wind breaks. Also called Athel Tree. Tamarix Aphylla. Sand in the bark, hard on chains. Smoky stinky burning. Though my friend whose place that was burned it in a tiny wood stove for years. Invasive species Considered trash wood. He wanted it “trimmed” to there...didn’t want death by limb, they had a near miss with a large limb and bedroom. Can’t kill them. Great shade trees. So anyway I recently talked to a mill out here and he’s interested in trying to mill and sell it. It’s pretty wood, and no one else is doing it. So I might be doing a lot of sharpening on my bigger saws.
My buddy has worked with it a bit. (Bowl)

My friend who owned the property retired to AZ. The new owner took all those big trees out and now it’s a godforsaken bare piece of alkali dirt in the glaring sun. I wish I had known to get ahold of the big pieces...but another friend has another stand of them to remove.
