Dead and brittle, a lot of Ash trees do that also.

Cottonwood is good for the exploding effect as well...that’s good and healthy too!

Even the bark which is up to 3 to 4 inches thick once dry makes great firewood and can burn for up to 4 hours when you fill your firebox up. everything about the tree is great except working it and transporting it it is bloody heavy 1120 kilos per cubic metre from memory .

Is it ready to burn or does it need to season? I know it has been dead for a long time, just wondering.

it is ready to make beautiful Embers that last a very long time will get some proper close-up pics next time I go out for a load .

Two more oak snags that had to be dropped. One was so far gone that half of it is probably too punky to be used for anything. Both crowns disintegrated on impact. Gypsy moths to thank.
