Do you cut out the area by chunks? Those chunks I see on the ground.

Yup. Just cross cut deep as I dare every foot so the chunks don't get too heavy. Then match it up close enough so not to gouge it all up, using wedges to remove the stubborn bits, and just carve away with a saw until it looks like an elephant...er bench, I mean. It's bigger than it looks, too. See if I got any other pics here...
OK, found one:

The trick about carving is being patient and using a dull semi chisel chain with an easy touch.

PNW carving style:

That's right before I trued the bottom so it would sit solid. I'm eyeing it for levelling.
So a lil ms391(mildly massage by me) with a 30 and 24 inch bar and also used an ECHO 361 with a 15 inch bar.
I sold my 044 and 288. Thank god, coz they woulda killed me doing this.

One of the old pine trees in moms yard didn't put out any needles this year and maybe last and possibly the the one before that. It was dead and waiting to fall somewhere it shouldn't. Gave me an excuse to run my newest saw. It ran well. 15 minutes to fell, limb and buck. All day to clean up and burn.

The whole place is super haunted. The guy who had the job before me died under a tree. Occasionally I glimpse him in the mist.
