Picked up the rest of the mesquite today…two big logs winched up the tilt trailer under the branches. I think I’m gonna regert not bringing another truck and trailer for the branches when it comes unloading time. Then again…16k forklift and log tongs…

That winch fairlead looks handy. How is it attached in the truck?
It’s basically a skid. In this truck it bolts to the 5th wheel rails. In the deuce it bolts to bed cross members. It was originally built for the 95 Cummins and ubolted around the frame. I need to build another set of poles 2-3 times longer.

Had a great day today. Someone asked me to cut firewood for him. He has a few acres of native woodland. All I had to do was fell the trees and cut them up into firewood. That was it. No driving machines, no winching and no cleanup. I picked out Ash trees but also cut a beech, a couple of alders and some Birch trees.

Some really nice Irish oak in this stand, I didn't touch those.

This was yesterday
If you just want the money shot , watch the first 30sec.

The full length unedited is the rest of the video

It’s me cutting with a ms260 & 18” bar.

Where in the UK are you? I wish we had more hardwood stands like that here.

We have chalky soil and oak trees don’t grow that well on it. But a 15 to 20 mile drive north the soil changes to where oak likes to grow..
This job we got paid to do was just reducing the risk of dead trees falling onto a neighbouring property.
