Combination of polesawing big branches with the Silky at 20' full extension, pulling with winch, undermining the "legs" of the branches on the ground, and knowing the escape routes.

The first branch was quicker and easier. The second took some thinking and innovation with a crappy rope and a monkey-fist. The 8-10" oak branch took about 20-30 minutes of polesawing, waiting for it to weaken enough to drop the second trunk piece with the winch. It stuck and still had to be walked down with the saw.20230412_173445.jpg

Would been nice to have a helper, but at least the landlord spotted for me.on the second branch/top.

The wooden stake in the ground is a main-line on the water system, with a spigot above ground. Breaking it would've been more complicated than just digging and fixing, according to the landlord. Padded it well enough that it withstood slow impact.

All that is clearing on my brother's new place, he caught a few pictures of me in the tree. Obligatory disclaimer, Do Not Attempt This At Home Based Off Of My Doing It. I am a redneck hack who has free-climbed trees (mostly without saws) for years and I have poor judgment.View attachment 372420View attachment 372421

Rockin' it! I shimmy up trees from time to time, and I keep my feet on the ground 99.99% of the time.

Sometimes it's totally safe to "free climb" and cut, other times it's a Hoka-hey situation.

Finally remembered to get a before picture, so an after picture makes sense and it's on a less than stellar tree. Simple, straight forward, and only took a couple hours total, start to finish.

We need a GTG!
I'd take the Pepsi challenge with that saw. I have definitely had my problems with it, it's been rebuilt once and it had its carburetor issues.. but now that it's ironed out? That's a top dog. From a 20" bar to 36", full comp, it will turn and oil em all. Period. What a machine, today it made me a believer

Happy for you Dominick, I know you went through some crap with the saws in the past.

Nice to have something that runs like a top.

Won't say it is in the same league as what you have, but my MOFO Hybrid pulls a 28" bar with authority and I'm very pleased with it.

Would be nice to share stuff with others at a GTG again!

You should tell somebody important like that wispy-legged moderator that roams around here.

The size of this Tree was deceiving in the photos.

We set a line & hung a 7/8” bull rope before I climbed up it.

He has a Caterpillar track loader so we hooked it to the other end & he pulled till I felt he had sufficient force on the tree to counter my actions.

I then set my climbing line & proceeded.

I was proud of that loader being on site.

I would believe the hybrid has the same guts and probably oils the same. Those are great saws.
