Was it a red maple? Big tree!
It is one of our soft maples. It’s native to our area along with silver maple, another softy, and the prize, sugar maple. Reds and silvers grow fast and almost anywhere so without competition they tend to take over. For firewood the red is a low to mid grade at best. For lumber it’s in the pallet wood ballpark. They make good yard trees but tend to hollow out as they get older. In our case since we’re trying to transition back to traditional oak hickory stands, red maple is basically a giant weed in the woods.

The red maple is the only tree that I've cut that has that English ivy all over it. They seem to go hand-in-hand.
It burns ok, just has low btu output.

Where I am, just north of you, the emerald ash borers have wiped out the ash population over the last ten years. A tree would look fine one year; the next year, it's dead. White larvae inside.
Yup since they were first discovered in CT in 2012, they have been killing them off. Only the ones at higher elevations seem to have been holding on. But it is only a matter of time.

Perfect size tree for the little saw.
But do yourself a favor. Bump up to a 261cm...

I have a Husky 460 for larger stuff, but I just like using the tiny saw as much as possible. I would love a 261cm with a 16" TsuMura lightweight bar, but my Husky 460 and MS150 do everything I need to do. Eventually I'm going to send my 346XS back to get fixed.

2511 is not a clamshell to my knowledge.

Port job would be more than the MS150 cost new...

MS150s are a disposable saw.

Just me...
If you want it ported, send it out and get it done...

I think you are confusing saws. The MS150 is a top handle pro saw like an Echo CS2511 and was $500 new with a bar and chain. Clamshell or not, the saw certainly cost more than port work.

Edit: I did not realize Stihl makes a rear handle version of the MS150. I'm certainly no saw expert.

Yes. You did not mention 150tc. I assumed it was just a rear handle.
Get it ported.
