How would the resistor, or non resistor affect the ignition system at all?

A resistor plug quiets the frequency coming from a electronic or electrical discharge that can cause interference with electronic devices. Electrical frequencies can also cause magnetic waves or pulse that also plays a hand in digital circuitry and fets.. I'm no engineer but I have learned some chit with ignition systems, rc electronics motors and why resistors were used on motors to limit interference with am fm signal waves

The plug is recieving an interference that would cause it to limit?

I don't buy it. If this were true then they would limit other saw as well.
This issue is something that stihl has designed into the electronics, and Scott has figured out how to circumvent it.
So yes Randy, Scott is the Man, if he shares this knowledge...

Can we all agree that Scott is the man?

This is more like 2,000 rpm, not 200

Some guys are who want to race a 661 are tryin to get it fully unlimited. Makes a big difference when you hit the wood 2,000 rpm faster than the next guy
If they looking for full race they could look into smaller flywheel , to give more room for a different coil and lighten the rotating mass, I originally thought it was also for a work saw. Install all oh26 parts and a real carb and no rev limit to deal with.

That would take some doing

So does everything else. I'd recommend rc plane ignition systems. Magnetic pickup sensor. Small cdi box and 6 volts oder DC power very simple, cool and weight is nothing with 4 AA batts. Saves weight. So you can move a saw quicker. Race mind set rite. Lite bar light chain less rotating mass. Screenshot_2017-04-09-08-14-34.png

Why does the tach get a double reading and screw the tach up? Is it doing the same to the plug?

It only does that when it hits the " limiter " or whatever makes it stop at a certain rpm. Reads fine until then

My sarcastic final answer for 661 race saw. Rc nitro engine style, DC current glow plug. No spark plug, 20 percent nitro rc fuel, and fully tunable pump carb. It will turn all the rpm you could ask for and still keep going no load till it pops a rod.
