you can still bore cut without leaving a trigger. I only use that for heavy leaners. Like this you can bore the heart wood to help keep from splitting then do a regular back cut with wedges.
I ASSume you would leave the hinge a little bit thicker when scarfing out the heart so the two hinges have the strength of a full width hinge?

Only thing I can think of is maybe it was a setup? Equipment strung up half way on tree to make it flip up and over her???
Thus no sound on the video.
Lady kept her finger on the throttle even after flipped over her head. WTF

I think that’s a bit optimistic Jeff. Lol! Judging by the slopped back cut and the mighty John Deere lawn tractor in the background I highly doubt “rigging” is in that idiots bag of tricks.

How long you been tipping trees?
I’ve read on forums to listen to your advice as you’re experienced
I just do it when i have to ,i know a lot of logger guys ,my step dad had a logging company too so i learned a lot from these guys ,not sure how long ,never paid attention .Listen to the old guys when they talk and soak it in ,they have forgot more than we will ever know ,one trick i use an older guy told me was if tree on uneven ground and lean looks questionable ,hold your axe like a plumb bob out in front of you ,it works good and can keep a tree from going over backwards on you .Another trick i learned from my step dad ,if dragging a log up a hill and it jambs into a stump ,wrap your choker around the log a few times ,next pull it will roll the log and go around the stump so you can keep going .He saw me fighting a cedar log once ,showed me that simple trick and now i use it a lot .

How I handled this hollow black birch, shallow box and tried to get as much hinge as possible. Was a leaner too... bore cut.DF426F19-78E9-42DA-B910-F2A797ECBA1D.jpegThought this black oak was gonna be a nice one so I bored out the face. Ended up being overmature. Oh well. I have zero experience dropping a hollow tree. Good job getting it on the ground Mason.

Don’t ya just love when you have high hopes for a tree only to find it’s fooked once you cut it down? Lol! I had a sugar maple like that the other day. Tree looked great, about a 20” butt log with 10” of punky heart. Gave me the sads...lol

Many of the larger oaks at my parents place are like that. Look great from the outside, but either hollow or punky 10' up the trunk.
