Leave your saw in the back cut running,as the tree starts to go over the direction you want ,keep cutting the hinge as it goes over ,it gives less chance of fiber pull ,only do if you know what your doing.
These usually make for great videos of saws coming outta the operators hands when the tree gets moving, their inexperience shines while doing this.

We don’t have the excavator around at this job now so I wasn’t able to get a pic of the claw attachment. Did cut a few sticks down though and some stump pictures. Feel free to discuss, I’m always open to learning. Any questions feel free to ask. The snow kind of threw me off, I should have cut them a little lower to make it easier for the skidder to run over them. I did cut another big black oak I didn’t get a picture of, got it nice and low. That oak was a big beotch! Nice!

By the look of the third stump, a slightly wider face might have saved that pull. But at least it was just sap wood, nothing lost.

Thank you. I’ve done that many times just wasn’t familiar with the proper term. Haven’t done it using a trigger though, I get the hell out of dodge when it starts to go. I need to get better at setting the hinge before cutting back to set the trigger. My hinges are often thick because I’m so cautious of gutting the hinge. Well, except for that maple above lol
Don't try to chase the cut boring.good way to smash a saw or you may get smashed.only chase the hinge if wedging the tree directional falling.be careful chasing also if cut the hinge through on one side first the tree can turn and spin on the stump.

Wonder if they would be more efficient to coos cut vs back boring everything?

you can still bore cut without leaving a trigger. I only use that for heavy leaners. Like this you can bore the heart wood to help keep from splitting then do a regular back cut with wedges.

You leaving a hinge on the outside. In other words two small hinges of heartwood? I feel I’ve heard of this just never needed it

Yes, two hinges.
Walnut splits easier than any other tree I have fell. I always bore them some way or another.
I just did a big one. Thought I had something.

Hollow at the base and struck barbed wire Not really worth anything I still have the log but it’s a shortie
