Builders, I believe both have good cylinders, so hopefully I can clean them up and rebuild them. Also I am hoping the cranks are good and rust free as well.

And from what I’m reading the 490 is an updated 488. Guessing some of the parts are interchangeable.

snagged this "non runner" 064 last night off craigslist. 4 pulls and it was running.

Then I opened the filter cover and saw why it was a pain to start and mis-tuned.

Cleaned it out and it ran alright. Can't figure out why it wasn't running right before...
Only blew 130psi on the gauge and has a little scoring on the piston and cylinder. once I clean it up enough to pull the jug without crap falling in the case I'll take pics and decide whether to re-use it with new rings or slap a MMWS Cross kit on it. Can anyone run the serial and tell me how old it actually is?

chain is dull and I’d rather have oem cylinder on saws

The chain is mildly rocked but nowhere near as bad as it looks in the pics. What do you expect from someone who can't install a filter. I'll post pics of the piston and cylinder when I pull it. Right now I'm guessing it will be a little cleanup and some rings.

I would just clean the cylinder and throw a meteor in w caber rings. I am not a fan of cleaning up pistons when there are good replacements available, $35.00 well spent.

Don't take this the wrong way, it's meant more to try to learn something others I have some faith in seem to know. You guys seem pretty confident the cylinder and possibly piston are good and useable but haven't seen them. Are your inclinations based off the fact it ran ok, the compression or that I would have already called it trashed if it were really that bad?
