It does look rather clean.

How to tell between a 10-10 & a 7-10?
I'll have to check for sure. Not real familiar with macs. If I remember right, it says 10-10 on it. I also think the bigger mac is a 1-63. I'll have a chance to get a better looksy at them in the next few days.

Hey Frank, got pictures of the little Jonsered? The one 3rd from the bottom, on the right. Is that a 2040 Turbo?

Looks exactly like the 2040 I just fixed for my uncle. A 2040 top end will bolt right on. But it is a clamshell saw. You can take the three bolts out of the bottom of the saw, and the engine assembly comes out. Then you can rebuild it from there. If you work on it, be careful with the carb adapter, it has an impulse tube that sticks out of it into the cylinder. You need to make sure you don't break it off.

Well, I picked up a saw today. Used old Homelite Super XL Automatic. It was assembled from parts laying around years ago. Then used for cutting an unknown but large number of cords of wood. Needs a fuel line, but otherwise should run.

Came with three extra bars and chains. I also have another one that was given to me a few years ago. Once I get them both up and running and cleaned up, I will post pictures.

So I luck out yesterday and catch a just posted ad for a 562 on cl for $200, with a phone # even!
Not too far from home, have some extra cash and the time to take a drive.

It appears to be in excellent condition and has a new p&c! But the ad states something is messed up with it and it runs really rough. Dealer/warranty horror show and he’s done messing with it.

I really want a 562, up there on my hit list, can never find a cheap one of course…
Make the call and can go get it immediately, yee haw, score!

The more detailed story on the saw was something like this;

First 562, shared with his Father in law, ran great for a couple years but is stolen from the garage.

FIL bought this saw/replacement last year (2015 on tag) and between the two of them put 8-10 total hours on it and very abruptly started not running right, very rough, wouldn’t come up to full rpm, no idle.

Takes it into the dealer purchased from, under warranty, they have it for 2 months, can’t figure it out and somehow seized it while attempting to fix it. They then send it off to Husqvarna who has it another 2 months and they refuse the warranty citing bad gas. Then the dealer dosen't want to return the saw and he has to threaten legal action to get it back.

He swears gas was fine, using xp oil that came with saw and two other saws were also running it with no issues.

He’s pizzed. Gets the saw back, buys a new p&c and puts it on himself (says he's an experienced 2 stroke mechanic and by the looks of his shop I believe it), still has exactly the same problem.

His local dealer who won’t deal with repairing a/t saws tells him it most likely needs a carb but he’d still have to go back to the original dealer to get it flashed. He throws in the towel and never wants to see the saw again. FIL buys an ms362 to replace it. Sells 562 to me…

Saws runs really rough, seems pig rich. Multi function switch feels funky, not really used to these but it’s definitely not right from choke to fast idle, won’t go all the way down to stop position either. I mentioned this while checking out/buying the saw and owner thought it felt normal...

I pop the air filter off and look in the intake, doesn’t look like the choke is opening all the way, operating lever is behaving oddly...

Remove the carb and sure enough something is wrong with the the fast idle lever/arm, it’s moving/swinging independent of the metal tab that’s peened onto that end of the choke shaft, and a little piece looks to have been broken off. That and it seems to be ‘sprung’ in the wrong direction, doesn’t pop away from the stop on the throttle, wants to go toward it.

I’m scratching my head.
It can’t be rotated around the other way to get the spring right without disassembling the throttle hardware or whole choke/shaft assembly.

562 carb.JPG

Once I got it spun around in the right direction, everything works as it should, even with the little piece missing. Put it all back together and the saw runs great!

I can’t figure out how that set of circumstances came about, guy claimed he never messed with the carb other than to remove and reinstall for the p&c swap. And he had no reason to while the saw was new and running right.

It seems like by his description of the original running issue and subsequently having the same issue after the new p&c is installed, that this choke issue was the cause all along but it doesn’t make sense. It couldn’t have been running right like that originally and I can’t figure out how something just broke during use that would have resulted in this condition.

And why would it have gotten scored with it running choked up? Confused A/T?

I’m happy as hell it was an easy fix but it’s just really weird.

Another awesome thing about this deal is that I got the original scored cylinder with it and it looks like it may clean up. I have a 555 to put it on and/or swap the transfer covers to and plan on porting both, so I can play around with a couple different recipes.
