I need to make a throttle rod for a Stihl 075, what is recommend material (or what has worked for you) to bend out a new throttle rod?

I bought a 1111 182 1501 but found out that it is about 1.5 inches too short, instead I need the 1111 182 1500 which mates up to a 1111 180 1501 trigger (that is the assembly number - breaks down into the trigger 1111 182 1001 with an eyelet).

It appears the 1111 182 1500 is the older and harder to find part, so I figured that I would try my hand at bending my own throttle rods. I am sure that this won't be the last hard to find throttle or choke rod I will need.

I have access to MAP gas and Oxy/Acetylene to heat material to bend, just not sure what are good options to use.

You’ll need to heat treat it or it will just bend right back.

I've used quite a bit of piano wire which I think now is called hobby wire. It does bend without breaking and holds it's shape.

It comes in a good variety of diameters. Sold in lengths.

Try hobby shops if you have any around you. The RC car and plane guys use it.

What size wire did you use do you remember? I measured the rod I have and it came out just over 1/16 of an inch, just over 0.0625 - I was using an analog tool, so not as exact as digital calipers.

A good number of years ago I bought "special" tool that was supposed to help make perfect bends.........

Yeah
I have no idea where it went.
Into the “special tool” drawer along with 347 other “special” tools.
The estate sale folks will finally find it once you croke.

was is a small crescent wrench... lol
No it was some special pliers type tool folks on "another site" were bragging about so I thought what the hell I will try it.

As for a small crescent wrench I was just thinking about the last time I got a new one. I had a Craftsman 10 inch that was probably from the 1990's. The damn thing would not move and I could not get it disassembled. Craftsman is supposed to have a "lifetime" warranty but of course the stores are belly up. Our local discount farm store, Farm and Fleet sells Craftsman branded tools so I thought I would see what they could do. I took it with me one day and the nice young lady at the service counter told me to go back and grab the closet thing I could find to it. She said they replace Craftsman with Craftsman or DeWalt. Well they had a 10 inch Craftsman so I grabbed it along with the rest of the stuff I needed. When I was checking out I explained to the young man that it was a warranty exchange. He gave me a puzzled look but rang it through at no charge. Then he wanted to hand me back the old one. Of course I could have taken it back and gave it to one of my sons to exchange again but that would be morally wrong and I told him to put it in the trash.
