I know alot of you guys have full-on shops and probably have a million "WTF" stories about things that have come through your doors. Well, I don't have a bonafide shop but I have been repairing saws for a local tree service company and a relative here and there.

Well, the tree service gave me a little 338XPT and told me it runs like crap. So yesterday I had a look and sure enough, it runs like crap. I decided it would be prudent to pull the carb for disassembly, cleaning and inspection. So I went to going about that little task and there it was... or I should say WASN'T... No air filter! LOL! And of course the air filter base was caked with debris, wood chips and saw dust... Gee, I wonder why it runs like crap! LOL!

So after servicing the carb and getting it back together, it runs like a watch.. Picking up a new air filter for it tomorrow...

The guy who I fix saws for brought me 5 026's in saying they either will not start, or are down on power. 3 out of 5 were missing the air filter covers. The filters were caked with weeks of sawdust and grime...

The tree sevice guy that gave me an MS391 with 'no compression' on the tag.

So he ran it so long, the chain wore through the rim and the drivers destroyed the splines on the drum.

There was also so much heat from him running a dull chain for so long that the seal started leaking and the cylinder scored.

Oops .... forgot to mention that the crank end was neon blue.

You can always justify another saw.

Don't get me started on the saws and trimmers that were simply flooded out from no one taking the choke off. Yeah, that smokes a lot when you get it fired.

Must have one hell of a pop-up piston and almost no squish clearance in that saw to be able to run diesel! LOL!
Had a z-turn with 2 fuel tanks come in with complaint of smoke. Yeah, started and got it up to temp on the tank of gas. Still ran after switching to tank that had diesel. not well, but ran.

My favorite part of these kind of stories is that it was always the wife/kids/neighbor. "Of course sir. Its your story and your sticking to it."
