No leaf pics?
Wonder how many cords are in that tree??Yup. Big tree!
Different. We have American Beech up here. Blue beech is muscle wood, but I've never seen it up hereI like Beach trees..
The ones we had up north were a blue beach I think.
Some referred to them as musclewood.
Hop hornbeam is referred to as “ironwood” sometimes..Wonder if muscle wood is what we call hornbeam here.
Biggest I have seen is 36" to 40" and hollow.Hop hornbeam is referred to as “ironwood” sometimes..
Kevin? Do your beach trees get 5-6’ across up there?
We had some monsters in the Charlotte MI area..
We’re those American also?
Yep they're monsters.Hop hornbeam is referred to as “ironwood” sometimes..

Yep that's its given name. Musclewood is just a nickname because it looks like it has musclesWonder if muscle wood is what we call hornbeam here.
My grandfather burnt 1 big beach tree for 2 years..Yep they're monsters.

LOL it's pretty cool when you're 50 yards from the woods and you're in the shadeMy grandfather burnt 1 big beach tree for 2 years..
He had his “wood lot” logged.
While the guys were there, he had them drop 1 “mother beach” tree.
Not for a log, but for firewood..
It had such a massive canopy, nothing else could survive within a 70’ diameter..
The lower main’s were damn near 24” in diameter..
It was like a tree condominium for a bow stand.
That might make some nice cutting boards.I have been told it is called "red beech" as opposed to straight grained "white beech", it is being famed of being practically un-splitable.

The little I have I had to noodle down to fireplace size, my axes couldn't get through the rounds.

We have American and eastern hornbeam I forget which is which. But one is the muscle wood. The other has shaggy bark although the leaves look the same and they are about the same size. We have some big beeches here too but they are almost always hollow once they get big.Yep they're monsters.
