The Strange Air Leak Thread

Had a 365 come in a week ago with a PTO side air leak. Most of the time we automatically jump to a bad crank seal or bad bearings but on the 365/372 there is another possibility that is often overlooked. The clutch spacer collar that seats on the crank is what the seal actually rides on and can wear out. As cheap as this part is IMO it should always be changed anytime bearings and seals are being done.





What's the strangest leak you have ever come across?

I've never seen one worn out though.
Maybe that's why the Hooskie ones are "cheap"

That's unusual for a husky to wear out usually parts just fall off well before any wear sets in? muffler the 1st thing to fall off right after the saw lays over on its side for a belly rub..

Strangest air leak I had was on a 009 that I am fixing, leaked pressure out the oil tank vent.

346 had a small nick molded into the intake boot where it meets the carb. Took me 5 times pulling it apart to find it.

When you do a base gasket delete on any saw....gotta check and make sure the cylinder head bolts won't bottom out before making a seal......

Well this one only took 20 years of every day stumping duty before it gave up the ghost. I guess it is just another bad design from a low end manufacturer.

As an aside, I would love to see any saw, Stihl or otherwise, that would fair any better to the abuse this thing has suffered.
