Old habits are definitely hard to break. I’ve tried shooting with both eyes open and it just doesn’t work for me. I was taught to shoot right handed but I’m actually left handed and left eye dominant. I have to shoot a pistol left handed though… can’t hit shiit with my right. Lol

I am right handed, but left eye dominant. When in the military and I attempted to qual, I would get through about 3/4 of my shots with a long gun and then pretty much close my right eye because I could not keep it open any longer. One day one of the firearm instructors saw this and had me switch to firing left-handed, I had no issues and shot expert each time after that. I still fired a hand gun right handed, but just sighted it with with my left eye. People kept telling me I was doing something wrong with my long gun slung over my left shoulder with my sidearm on my right side...but that's what worked for me.

My favorite shotgun was a JC Higgins bolt action 16 gauge with a full choke. I started out with a bolt action JC Higgins 20 gauge & a single shot .410.

Did a lot of bird hunting with the 16 & killed a few deer with it as well.

I used it to fleece my buddies shooting trap as as well.

I have the same issue...I didn't even realize I shot a handgun sighting with my left until a buddy started laughing at me.

When I taught hunter education a long while back, after we instructed all of the kids to shoot with both eyes open, one of the instructors asked the others (there were about 5 of us) if any of us kept both eyes open, and not a one of us did.

I sure wish that I had learned to shoot left-handed.

We have a 3 shot limit for doves.

I just buy a box of 20 ga shells and throw them in the trash when dove season starts. Saves me time and fuel.

I wish I only went through a box. Lol, plus, I only have to cross the street. No fuel used. All the other neighbors drive across the street, walking is frowned upon.

My dad and I would go duck hunting, he had a pump action shotgun, I had a bolt action. He always went through his shells faster, usually the third fired was just the pissed off shot because the first two missed. I got lucky if I could rack in a second shot before the birds were out of range.

I picked up a Marlin goose gun (12 ga, 36" barrel) to fix up for turkey hunting. Not sure I'll be able to get through the woods with it.

The idea of a bolt action shotgun was intriguing, but duck hunting can be frustrating enough without having to rack a bolt!

It is defiantly and ammo saver and makes you work harder at leading the bird properly.

Are those allowed up there ?

They’re still legal for now.
I actually took the scope off my 870 and put it on the SX4 last night. The scope isn’t anything fancy. Bushnell Banner 2. 3-9x40 with 5.5” of eye relief.

We’ve run those on our punkin’ lobbers too, but lately our favorite has been the Vortex 2-7 power shotgun scope.

Snagged this Elsie today from a local shop. It was originally a 12 Gauge with Damascus barrels but a previous owner has Briley tubes and screw in chokes installed sleeving it down to 20 Gauge so it can eat modern smokeless rounds. I'm just the kind of sicko that actually wants to take these old girls out and use them so I didn't care that the "Collector Value" is gone.
