Some time back a local guy brought in this MS210, I'm pretty sure the damage was a result of being flooded badly and trying to pull it over.

I put an low cost AM kit in it and the saw works well for his purposes.

The problem now is that the inner spring on the EZ start system comes out of the seat in the housing. This was happening before, but I reformed the hook on the end and it held up O.K. since October but he brought it back yesterday with the same issue.

I reformed the hook again, and applied a little redneckery heat treat and have it working again. Looking on line I only find the entire spring/housing available, and at $50 + that piece costs almost as much as the short block I put in.

The IPL does not list the spring separately, does anyone know if in fact that spring can be purchased individually?

Thanks,

Mark

Just finished rebuilding a 500i given to me. Replaced seals, bearings, piston and rings, primer bulb. Cylinder was good with a little sanding and scuffing. I carried it out today and cut up a pin-oak a little bit bigger than my 28" bar. I am very impressed with the 500i's responsiveness. I was cautious on the throttle limbing. Bucking the big stuff I let it work for a couple rounds then let it cool for about 30 minutes before getting back to cutting with it. Running 32:1 in it.

Are you pulling it over slowly? If you pull it over like a normal saw it does that. It's supposed to be wound up slowly until it releases (quickly).

I do understand how the ez start is supposed to be operated, and I have explained and demonstrated it to the owner as well.

The saw has some tendency to flood pretty easily, which I believe was responsible for the bent connecting rod in the first place due to hydro-locking. I've shown him how to use the choke to latch it in the high idle position then switch the choke off before pulling it over. I did go through the carburetor when I replaced the short block to insure the metering lever was set correctly and that the carburetor would hold pressure.
