Think I'd stay away from that one then..., unless it's a very low budget rebuild and won't be used in a demanding environment..., and the price is right of course.

I paid the premium Stihl price for mine so I'm going to use it anyway I can. Another shop I got to has the blue ones $36. my local Stihlership $50

Same here near me for the Stihl files. I have the Pferd 2 in 1 files for .325 and 3/8". Paid about the same.

I'm not talented enough to get an advantage from a 36.00 file. It would be like a 20 handicap golfer buying a $1000 iron set. Yes, the same applies to my golf abilities!

Just looked them up, seems like a slick setup. I thought you were just talking about plain round files for $36.00.

A $36 chain file should come with a guy to file the chain!

I get Stihl files for $1.25 ea. or a box (dozen) for $12 and don't use anything else. The 2-in-1 setup looks pretty cool but way overpriced. Shopping around for a Pferd version instead may yield a slightly better price, but since Pferd makes them for Stihl I'm sure there's an agreement there somewhere to maintain similar pricing. Also sucks that you need to buy a separate setup for each chain pitch you happen to use and that one design can't be adjusted for different pitches. That will keep me from ever buying one on general principles alone.

The 2 in 1 Pferd chain file setup us what we were referring to. Stihl is like $45 or so. Pferd is about $36 or so on sale.
I bought one each for .325 and 3/8. But I wonder if one only needs to change out the files for different chain sizes? I don't think so, because of the way the bars rest on the nearest teeth. But I wonder......

Same unit. Pferd makes them for Stihl. A Stihl dealer can charge what he wants, obviously. If I were to buy one it would be in Pferd colors anyway.

Yeah that is a bummer that its not adjustable but if you use one it could change your mind. And I have a Stihlership and a Echo dealer 10 mins away that sell these and there are not equally priced lol. Lucky me. And the way I justified it was a set of 3 was cheaper than a Oregon grinder and it made me look and feel good about hand filing.

Don't get me wrong, I like my Stihl colors..., just not their prices on most stuff! And my bad for chiming in after just skimming over the above posts and not realizing you pretty much were talking about the Pferd 2 in 1. And something in the back of my mind tells me I may actually like one if I tried it..., now that I've spent all that time getting my free hand filing down pretty good. Would sorta piss me off!

Just a few more cutters and rakers to rehab and the 024 should be making chips. Anybody know how, or if it is even possible, to convert my saw to the new style 024/026 air filter? Would it only require the filter and filter cover? The air filter it has is original and works but not long for this world. I saw a picture where someone removed the old flock and glued fine wire mesh over it, that looked pretty slick although I'd rather go with a new filter instead.

Yes, it is about half the size of the new style filter. I can send you a pic if needed.

I may be mistaken, but I believe a new style air filter will work just fine and the main variable determining which carb box cover can be used is whether or not there is the tower style tank vent, not which air filter is used..., at least for the early 024/026.
