i know one arborist in my area and he uses the 192t in the tree.
Now thats a saw we dont have Jake..the 150 and the 201 plus the 160 battery saw are our top handle choices. Iv never clapped eyes on a little 150 yet. If you climb here most will have a top handle of some sort on there belt line .

the 192t is like a ms 170 in a compact top handle design.

Well, I can get the 024 to start and run but not very well. It will run on half choke, won't idle or run with the choke off. I'm thinking the new carb is bad as turning the screws makes little difference. The carb boot and impulse line are new and properly installed. I have the kit for the original WT-22B carb so I took it apart. Fortunately, it is pretty clean so maybe the new kit will get everything going again. This is especially irritating as I have alot of wood on the ground just the right size for this saw waiting to be cut, and the Echo CS-400 is ready to roll!

Try a Genuine Walbro WT-194 carb on the 024.
They are the best.

Thanks, I found one for $40.00 and have it on y list. I disassembled the WT-22B and found it was quite clean, all passages are clear. Installed the new kit and made sure the metering lever height was correct. Adjusted the screws to one turn out each as per Stihl. I'll put the original carb on and see if anything changes. If not, then it sounds like I did something to screw it up or the saw has another problem I don't know about.

Quick question: Is it possible to modify my older 024 to use the larger air filter that the newer ones do? Air filters for this saw are like $30.00 each and aftermarket just doesn't exist. Also, if anyone is interested I posted an offer to trade or sell the 18" OEM bar and chain on this saw in the for sale section.

The WT22 is a perfectly acceptable carb for that saw and nearly as desirable as the WT194. Always overlooked as a very good option.
Both my 026's have em and run great.

As for your performance issue, it sounds like an intake air leak somewhere.

The 026/260 filters fit. Just have to use the matching cover.

What filters is on there now?

026 has slightly bigger, larger air filter cover to fit the larger filter.

Thanks very much. The 024 currently has the original small air filter and cover on it. Installed the WT-22B with a new kit. The internals on the carb were surprisingly clean, as said before I don't think the saw has been used much. Adjusted the screws to one turn out each and gave it a try last night. The saw starts right up now but still won't idle. Should the saw run and idle ok on the factory one turn out setting, or is that just a minimum? It behaves as if it is adjusted really lean or has an air leak. Boot and impulse line are new. I suppose I should go back through it and recheck my work before I do anything else.

Tried it again today. Richening the screws doesn't make any difference, neither does turning up the idle. I think we have an air leak somewhere, and it's probably something I screwed up!

Better that you find it now, before any damage is done to internals. Be positive. You will find it and fix it.

Thanks, will do my best. May have to push it to the back of the line for awhile though, three of my four riding mowers are on strike right now!
