FWIW the tw0 Partner P-100's I did summer before last had soft seals .I replaced them with CR metal clad . Those two were almost like Stihl with heat shrink fit bearings and a Mahle cylinder .

I got lost in some of detail.
Especially with the clip of the bass ackward seal above.
Was that specific to a clam shell? Or is that something applicable to the 041?
Do you still think what I have is installed backwards?

The illustration was of a different seal for a clamshell type saw that is actually supposed to be inverted. What you're pulling out of that 041 is all new to me.

Also looks like an awful lot of dirt and debris in the area that you sure don't want getting down into that bearing.

This the brand from LRB

I could get it to stick but couldn’t set it by hand.
Walked it around and down with a dowel.
Gave everything a good grease and put it together
Saw hold solid 10psi both vacuum and pressure
Turned the crank and still rock steady

Yeah spring on the outside definitely new to me, I would think that was a previous fix by someone. I have never seen a spring outside of a seal. Maybe on a 60s jeep axle or something to hold grease but not a pressurized crank .

I've got the service memos on micro fiche for Stihl but since I've never owned an 041 I've never read them .In theory the seal should work both directions if it's a double lip .However that depends on the lip code .If it's propriety Stihl seal I have no info on but if it's a generic seal I most likely do .

Sure looks like a Contra to me. @bulletpruf can call it for you.

Later Lightning/Contra. Starter looks original; just not the earlier style. Clutch/sprocket cover from a later saw. Looks like it has what's referred to as the less common (but quieter) jungle muffler, but hard to tell from the pics. Likely 106cc; the 137cc Lightning S/Contra S are quite rare.

Got a deal for 60$.
Its a running saw, guy sent me a video, just needs carburetor rebuilt, but ill do a complete overhaul of course.

That is indeed a nice saw bulletpruf.

$60? That's a great deal!!! Yes, the muffler is homemade. Just remember that if you look for a original replacement that the Contra muffler is different than the 070/090. Check saegenspezi.com (I think that's it). They sell a lot of reproduction parts.
