After reading this Dolmar Makita thread for MONTHS and finally reaching page 300, I've joined the forum. I've been a pro chainsaw user since 1972; timber falling in Ut, Or, Id, Wa, Wy, and presently doing arborist cutting in Co. I can say I'm quite envious of all the Dolmars and Makitas described and pictured since January of 2016!
Way back in my logging days, I'd heard rumors of Dolmar saws but never saw one in real life until a friend bought a 6421 from Bailey's with big bore P/C bonus back in the early 'teens. I now own it, having traded a 372xp from the pile of them I seem to have collected. I promptly switched the powerhead, gutted and opened the muffler, and started grinning every time I ran it. Just today I dropped and processed two 30+ inch diameter Doug firs. As I couldn't find a full wrap handle for it, I've scabbed on part of a full wrap from one of my many 288s that I retired when I quit the logging woods.
My second Dolmar, a 116si, was found by a doctor friend in his barn. Former owner of the property left it behind. When doctor Luke realized I am a power saw nut, he gave it to me. It also is a fantastic runner.e muffler mod. I needed a starter, handle bar, and crankcase after a rolling boulder dislodged on a steep road cut and went on a search and destroy mission. Those parts came used from Germany.
I've still never seen another Dolmar nor Makita, but some day I hope to own several.
Thanks for letting me join.
Now, I'll get back to page 300 and catch up to all of you in a few weeks.
