Interesting. Is it built any better? Any stronger? I really don't know much about them.

Nope 6400/7300/7900 are all the same chassis just different displacement, my guess (and its just a total guess) on the 7300 cylinder/saw being a bit more is supply/demand, I bet they mostly sell 7900/7910 or they sell the 6400 series saws to place like HD for rental, probably less production run on the 7300 so time is lost on switching tooling/production. It does really seem odd that it would cost more

I'd bet the 73xx costs more than the 79xx at the manufacturing level.

To buy a new 73cc top end is $29 more than a 79cc.

The ps-4605 is more expensive than the ps-5105CX out of this family the ps-5105C is cheapest is yours running the same pattern @166

The two saws that are sneaking under the radar are ps-420 and
The legendary 115 which has just had its 30th anniversary

In manufacturing, its always cheaper to produce something in large quantities. Economies of scale applies. If the 73XX from Dolmar were the more popular variant of the production facility, then the other saws may see less economies of scale, or cost more per each. The tooling required to make each of the 64XX/73XX/79XX is probably the same, or at least overlaps in some regards. Many times they will need to setup/change the machines to produce the other model, which increases lead times and drives the higher cost. A lot of variables, you might say.

Nobody can convince me that all of a sudden, after about two decades of manufacturing this saw family, it became more expensive to manufacture the PS-7310 (7300) than the PS-6400 & PS-7910 (7900)!
They are shifting production to China which should make the product cheaper!

I smell a rat, and that rat is Makita trying to kill off interest in the 73cc model.
Just as I believe they raised prices on the Dolmar saws to make the Dolmar brand less attractive, while the Makita branded ones appear to cost the same as before.

Considering Makita has established manufacturing plants in China it is only a matter of when, the way I see it.

Although, I am at no official source to have facts.
I could be completely wrong, and THAT would make me happy!

As well as stihl and Husqvarna also having plants in china....... Makita has assembly plants using German manufactured parts all around the world. And some models will be assembled in Germany but do to not having enough space in the German plant they will assemble some models there and some in other places. But all parts are designed and made in Germany.

Cleaned up the 520i today, it stopped leaking fuel and sounds like its running great. I need to pickup a bar and chain for it since it didn't come with a set, thinking of going with a 18". Only thing I can find wrong with it is the chain brake doesn't work not sure if it is missing parts or hooked up wrong. It seems to operate freely but doesn't lock into place.
