Its a Oriental plane tree a hybrid of the London plane tree it was planted between 1790-1810 when the house was built it has a girth of 29ft 5" @ chest height before it goes into multi stem it was pollarded in it's early life I've been reducing and cutting out trees All around the gardens and have come across some weird and unusual trees and huge shrubs

1790 . Our ancestors had only recently concluded shooting at each other.

That is "Some Sort of re growth " Andrew !!!!

Yes there was years and years of rubbish growing up through searching for light at the back of that plain tree including all the ash lumps in the photo there wasn't much foliage and branches on the east side , the tree is so heavy on the west side took loads off with the "lil Red Devil "

Yes they had it's funny this type of tree isn't a very strong wood it's sort of in between tulip and sycamore it's cable braced up @ 80-90ft to keep the stems together

So it escaped the clutches of the "timber navy" all those years ago

How does the 420 handle the debater? I have thought about getting but was going to put it on the 6100 on a 24" bar. No bending over lol

Had no problem with it. Of course I was just doing those notches. For that a heavier saw would be awkward. I think id want a bigger saw if i were debarking green posts.

Can someone tell me if the decomp valve on the 166 is unique to that saw or common. The one on mine is missing and i will have to make up a choke linkage other than that it's all there.

Welcome to the 166 club. They share the same size as a few later mac saws. Will try and dig up model numbers if no one else chimes in.

Thanks i started working on it and found that some ass at the last shop that worked on it wired the coil to ground no spark of course . topend looks good from what i can see they stole the decomp and choke assembly but everything else is there its in decent shape ill clean it up and post pics it's no beauty queen but should be a good runner.

I suspect they were trying to get the saw for free from my friend they probably wired it wrong on purpose.
I've got new cabers on the way from hl supply it's going to be a fun project.

Yeah id hate to plug it off but the weight of the saw should help keep it on the ground when starting it. Ive always drop started the big saws 288 394 etc. You guys do this or footpad and pull.

I start them either way. My big bore 166 i drop start. Can't start on the floor. It will just come out from under me. If the saw has a long bar i tend not to drop start as the bar wants to hit the floor.

I'm not sure how they were delivered from factory. Might have been
pho with out bar so you can chose which bar length you want. SD
had many lengths to chose from. A 20 on your 166 is kinda short for
that saw. You won't feel the real torque the saw has. Get a bar 36 inch
and longer is what they need. The 166 is made to cut big wood and they
do it well.
