So I got my new 7910 brake handle today and got it installed. The new OEM handle has weights riveted to the brake handle. Is that really necessary?? I'm assuming it's there to be heavy enough to apply the brake band if the saw kicks back?

There was a recall due to the inertia brake not kicking in fast enough and they installed those weights, or rather brake levers with those weights to remedy the issue.

It is a matter of safety so I am not going to comment on whether it is necessary or not.
I do not have any on mine.

Dolmar PS-6100 MMWS doing her thing.

I really like her with the modded Vanguard chain, she handles the aggressive rakers very well.
The loop is settling in with each touchup though, becoming really pleasant to run without sacrificing cutting speed.

Neither do I recommend it or not but I can add information given to me by a Dolmar support staff member off records shortly after the recall was issued way back in 2018:
The additional weight added to the brake flag adds risk for breaking the flag's hinge clutch-side.
The Dolmar engineers had thought of a replacement brake mechanism (e.g. an altered lever cascade) but Makita refused that solution because of the costs and preferred the bolting on of an additional weigth.
I don't know if there have been noticeable more hinge-breaches with saws having the fix installed or not.
But as you can see, even safety patches often tend to be a tradeoff

That my freind, is a beautiful representation of a 115i. Very good find! Looks like it cleaned up very well!

Thank you!

Here are full-body impressions of this frankensteined saw:

I think she's a very good deal with her 125 € price tag, starting and running fine even if the exact year of manfacturing can't be deterimened. I guess she, that is her main parts aka engine block, are '94 or soon thereafter, clutch cover however is 2011, more donators of different ages highly likely.

Got this done today think it is finally ready to cut wood. Unlimited coil and aftermarket hd12 carb with small muffler mod see how it does. Will be my first time trying a 7300 I am pretty excited. Ps if someone has a gloss black air filter cover they want to get rid of it would look nice on this saw

Out if curiosity is the C3M the best carb option for a 7910?? I've got a Walbro RWJ laying here that looks like it would be easily adapted onto the dolmar. It also, to the naked eye appears it would flow more air. Carburetors are one of the only things on saws that I don't know a whole lot about.
On a side note I got my newly ported, mufflers modded, and timing advanced 7910 tuned today with an 8 tooth sprocket. This thing is really impressive. I've been playing around with porting and Modification on saws for several years. This one has to be one of my favorites.
As advised I removed the muffler bracket also after it got gutted and dual ported.

People do put the rwj-4 on the 79xx saws. That particular carb is a strato carb though, so all the jets open to the bottom. It makes them hard to tune without the divided intake. Easy to over-lean.

Another option would be 385/390 carb. Not quite as much venturi but a more balanced fuel pattern.

That's an interesting thought. I probably have a few 385/390 carbs laying around here some where.
Is there much of a performance gain to be had you think?

There is lots of good info on carb options in this thread I think in the end it was determined the Zama modified was the best one but the hd12 was a little better than the unmodified Zama and the rwj was not worth the work but there is timed cuts with all of the carb options

Has anyone opened up the Venturi on a Zama c3m with good results? Or does it cause the airfuel mixture to become lazy, as in not mix well and not pull fuel through the jets properly?

Side note, here's a clutch tool I just made out of a 19mm socket for a 64xx, 73xx, and 79xx clutches. Might fit others as well? A 3/4 socket would work as well.

It worked wonderfully! Should be better on the crank than the hammer and screwdriver method.

That looks a lot like my clutch removal tool mine was a 3/4 spark plug socket at 1 point

One of, if not THE most underrated Dolmar chainsaw!

Dolmar PS-550 is a little beast, 15" 3/8" B&C has no problems going through a 20" Turkey Oak log in one cut.

She is my little gem! :enamorado:

Part numbers for EA5600 clutch cover:
- 131 213 620 , Teal => 2018
- 131 213 621 , Teal 2019 =>
- 131 213 640 , Red => 2018
- 131 213 642 , Red 2019 =>

Edited, I think I got them all now.
Makita is making a mess with the part numbers changing them every other year or so.
