It's really sad looking at what Poulan used to be, and what they have been reduced to.

This is the 1st poulan I’ve had in my hands.
I can’t seem to find much info other than leatherface.
Is this model desirable?

A co worker inherited it and I’ve just cleaned it up.
Really really clean under the filth.

Needs a carb to reed gasket and a new duck bill for the gas cap but runs.

Running and clean like this, what do you guys think this is worth?

You should worry more about end play more than left to right. Any up and down play is unacceptable.

3400 3700 4000 models. There is no up down just in/out I'd say 1/32" ish. Saw has no leaks tho.

In my experience, If it's real sloppy side to side then it's probably gonna have end play.

Oh imma run it. Got another case that's tight, cylinder piston and rings if this one let's go. But until then shes gonna cut wood.

Oh its more than that for sure. I've read that roller bearings sometimes had more ... I know the newer ones i have (the ones with less run time) have less play but this one seems to run fine with what I would consider alot. Idk.

Sounds like the thrust shims may have some wear. If they go, won't be good. Best measure with a dial indicator to get play, 0.015" or less on these 3400-4000. If around 0.020, either shim wear or bearing depth not set correctly.

Okay another question...if I only swap piston and cylinder from a 3400 to a 4000 will it work as it should? Flywheel...ignition? I would guess it doesnt breathe as good but it should work right?

Just guessing but looks like a standard Poulan green duck valve.

It will swap with No Mods. Just the normal carb tuning. No need to swap anything else.

My 3400 saw has only the 3700 piston and cylinder. I swapped nothing else. I did unmod the muffler someone hacked up by drilling 6 holes in the front, was too freaking loud.
