Roadside honor system? There's a place a couple of miles from here with a big stand out front.
As a lifelong Insomniac, I seriously like being able to go pick up a watermelon in the middle of the night.
Years ago In another place, used to be a stand with scales and bags. Weigh your own stuff and drop in the money. The guy died though and the land is a housing development now.
And that's the way it SHOULD be!

Let me know if you ship!

Always wondered about the honor system roadside stands. I think in our rural area it would be pretty straightforward as there are no real reasons for city folks (read as some less honorable than others) to be passing thru. Do y'all have generally the right amount of $ for product put out?
Ship sweet corn seed or once it’s grown ?

We had one person “steal” a few dozen last year and wouldn’t you know it it was someone in an almost brand new Escalade. I’ve got a Sheriff buddy that looked up the place and told me they lived an hour away in a larger city. If they’d have been closer I’d have driven over there with a bill in hand for $10 lol

We pick the stand pretty full on Friday mornings and keep it full all weekend.
I have a section on one side that reads “day old $3/dz” and it is always cleaned out first. I bring the stand in the air conditioned shop at night to cool it down and it seems to last for 4-5 days out there easily.

We had a number of people ask for large quantities for canning and gladly picked for them. One lady wanted 75 dozen. The kids had a blast picking it all !! The gal came with a Nissan Leaf to haul it home lol.

Appreciate the reply, was a tongue-in-cheek request to ship the ready to shuck corn. It looks great, especially given the current season and temperatures, we're huge fans of corn on the cob, as everyone should be.

It sounds like you and the kids have a great system and for the most part sounds like you have great folks being ethical customers, gotta love that! Wish you had a pic of the hybrid loaded to the gills with corn!

I’d eat a dozen ears a day all year long and not get sick of it. I love sweet corn on the cob !!

I plant Syngenta varieties with Quick Trip (72day) and Revision (82day I think) the primary two. Revision throws a massive cob and Quick Trio is some of the best stuff I’ve had in a long time. I plant the sweet corn 4 rows wide over the course of 6 weeks to space out harvest. I leave a 4-wheeler space between each set so I can buzz up and down to side dress or de-weed as needed. The sweet corn patch gets chicken sh!t, steer pen pack, 80lbs dry urea and 80lbs liquid side dress twice. There are usually two full ears on each stalk lol

The farmers around us have started growing two crops of sweet corn. Early and late.
We stagger plant two different varieties to spread harvest out. We’re usually the first with corn available and the last as well. A lot of folks like it late for canning and we have a few regulars that want 50+ dozen. We also do a couple camping trips each fall and do cooler corn with a giant cooler. That’s fun.

Cooler corn? Sounds interesting.
Fill a cooler with husked and cleaned corn on the cob. Pour boiling water into the cooler until it’s full, close the lid and leave cook for 45ish minutes. It’s a great way to cook a whole bunch of corn in a hurry. We do it for a few seed events in the fall as well as a couple fall camping trips.

To really make it amazing we usually have a crock pot with melted butter ready as well as a cookie sheet with a variety of spice bottles around it so you can dunk your cob in butter and season it over the cookie sheet however you want. The adventurous in the group will roll their cobs in whatever falls on the cookie sheet.

A new method to add to the repertoire. Thanks.

Another fun one is garbage can corn.

1 Leave the husk on (Maybe remove a few outer leaves, but make sure there is at least a 2-layer covering on each ear), and soak them for an hour or so.
2 Take a clean metal trash can, and arrange beer cans full of water to completely cover the bottom (the fun part is emptying the cans ahead of time).
3 Place your soaked corn on top of the beer cans, cover with the trash can lid, and place directly on the coals of a campfire for about an hour.
4 Pull the can off and consume. The steam from the beer cans will keep the corn hot long enough to eat them.
5 Repeat with another trash can, until you run out of corn or beer.

The Garbage Can Corn sounds good, but any chance of getting a sample of the galvanizing in with things?
