I'm in the market for a small disc mower. I'm cutting too much ground now for just a 7' sickle bar.

I have a New Holland 616 disc mower, Might think about selling it. ( Not sure about shipping costs )

I'd imagine I can find one local.

I'm using a 54hp tractor. Runs my little baler real well. I was surprised really, figured I'd be underpowered.

Yes, We cut over 100 acres of soybeans back in 1977 during the drought, Cut them with the old 477 haybine and baled them with the Ford 532 hay baler. about 6,000 bales. The cows loved it back then, as they had nothing else to eat.

I was lookin to bale just the stubble. After combine goes through. I may do my homework. See what is easier to deal with those or corn stalks. Just can't see buying hay

Don't think they will like that, Corn stalks will be better I think! How much hay do you need?

It pulls very hard, 60 hp+ And weighs about 1600# on the three point hitch. Very hard on a tractor.

Sounds about right for a New Holland cutterbar. Why NH & Deere can't build an easy puller??

Do the math on what your pulling from the soil. Might be cheaper buying.

The New Idea's pulled like a dream. The old Krones wern't bad not sure on the newer ones. We pulled a 9' roller conditioning one with a 50hp tractor. And anything with Kunn bar has always been good for us.

Is your hayfields hilly?Every disc mower I've ever pulled has worked a 70 horse tractor pretty hard, but I've got hilly ground

That they do. But it's still better than a sickle.

I've got my sickle tuned up pretty well. But you guys know how it is.......get to going along real good.......look around and you've hit a mouse nest or something, and dragging grass. It's frustrating at times.
